1. Introduction

This SOW specifies the technical requirements for Delta Undulator permanent magnet procurement and procurement deliverables.

2. Magnet Geometry

The magnet block geometry is shown in Figure 1. The specific mechanical geometry is defined in drawing number PF-381-905-23.

Figure 1 Magnet Block

The magnet block is adhesive bonded and pinned into an assembly as specified in drawing number SA-381-905-22. The magnet cartridge assembly is shown if Figure 2.

3. Magnet Material

The magnet material and properties are defined in Table 1.

4. Magnetic Field Orientation

The magnet will have three magnetic field orientations as shown in Figures 3, 4, and 5.

Each magnet will have an arrow screened onto one surface indicating the magnetic polarity of each individual magnet.

5. Epoxy Bonding

The Epoxy adhesive injected to bond the magnet block will be specified by the vendor and approved by SLAC prior to use. A recommended bonding procedure shown in figure 6 illustrates the technique to register the magnet against the holder for accurate positioning of the magnet.

Figure 6 Magnet Cartridge Bonding

The magnet assembly bonding will occur prior to magnetization.

6. Magnet Serialization

Each magnet will have a unique serial number engraved on the magnet holder. The serial numbers will be in the format defined in figure 7. The serial numbers will be in the format that correlates to the magnetic field polarity, procurement batch number, and serial number for each magnet. The serial number series will be like the listed examples in Table 2.

The serial number format is defined in figure 7.

Figure 7 Magnet Serialization Format

Each magnet serial number will be engraved in the position shown on the magnet holder prior to magnetization.

Figure 8 Magnet Serialization

7. Procedure

It is recommended that the magnetic field polarity marking, bonding process, and serialization are performed prior to magnetization.

8. Magnet QA

The magnets will adhere to the following QA standards.

1. The magnet blocks will be free of visible chips and cracks.

2. The magnet material will not be exposed to temperatures exceeding 50 C after sintering and magnetization.

3. The magnetic field of all delivered magnet blocks will be measured after delivery to SLAC. Magnets not meeting minimum field strength will be returned to the vendor.

9. Procurement Deliverables

The vendor will provide the following deliverables for each magnet order at shipment.

1. Completed magnet assemblies in the quantities specified for each polarity.

2. A summary list of the magnet serial numbers and their measured magnetic field strength. This will be provided in an Excel format emailed to the requestor.

3. Material data sheets for the bonding epoxy.

4. Material data sheets for the N40UH magnet material.

10. Shipping Requirements

1. The shipping package will be marked with labels warning that there are permanent magnets in the package.

2. Magnets will be packaged and shipped in materials that protect the magnets from damage during shipping.

3. The magnets will be shipped enclosed in a ferrous metal shield designed for magnetic field containment.
