About this file

The document is a State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Description of Intended Single Source Purchase for Coral Acceptance and Relocation. The procurement involves Mote Marine Laboratory being selected to outplant or transport corals provided by FDOT in Monroe County, Florida, to approved nursery/propagation and gene banking facilities. The contract is authorized under permits from the Florida Keys National Marine Fisheries Service (FKNMS) and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). The contract term is 3 years, with a posted date of 5/8/2025 and a last day for receipt of information on 5/15/2025.

The estimated dollar amount for this single-source contract is $500,000.00. FDOT reached out to eight different vendors, including colleges and state agencies, and Mote Marine Laboratory was the only vendor with the required permits and capacity to accept the full inventory of corals proposed for relocation. The justification emphasizes that contributing all corals to a single entity is more environmentally sound and cost-efficient compared to distributing them among various practitioners. The contract will be funded by FDOT, with the cost calculated at $1.00 per square centimeter of live coral tissue delivered to Mote Marine Laboratory.
