Continuation of Description

Statement of Work Procurement of CitoPress 30 a Hot Mount Press from Struers

Section A: Scope

1. Objective:

The objective is to procure a new Hot Mount Press that has the capability of mounting two different samples at one time. The hot mount press ideally should be capable of mounting different materials within an efficient and effective time frame. This is to aid our metallography process in preparing samples through cutting, grinding, and polishing.

2. Background/Introduction

This mount is being investigated as a means of automating our production of metallographic samples. Our goal is to produce mounted samples within a timely manner and take these mounted samples and place them in an auto polisher to cut down on the time required to hand polish before moving on to the final step of etching the samples. Hand polishing is limited to one sample at a time whereas auto polishing can perform up to as many as 8 or 12 samples (size depending). But the auto polisher can only accept specific geometries which is where the CitoPress 30 comes in with its ability to mount two samples versus a single modular mount system.

3. Limitations of Work: Not Applicable

Section B: Applicable Documents

4. Documentation: Not Applicable

Section C: Requirements

5. Scope of Work:

Code 138 needs to procure a hot press mount that is capable of efficiently producing 2 mounted samples within an allotted time to aid in our polishing and grinding phase of the metallographic preparations. With the purchase of this Hot press mount the company Struers will come out and provide specific training on how to effectively use the CitoPress 30 mount for the samples we prepare and the proper sectioning required to achieve a good, mounted product.

6. Contractor Responsibilities: Struers, will aid NNSY in helping set up the machine to specific needs of the materials being prepared and demonstrate specific sectioning that will be required to achieve the mounted product needed for our final metallographic analysis.

7. NNSY Responsibilities: NNSY's C138 will aid struers in the set up process and ensure they have the proper documentation to get into the shipyard. C138 will also assist struers by escorting them to the jobsite where the equipment is set up.

8. Government Furnished Property: No property will be shipped or transferred from the government this is the procurement of a machine from Struers.

9. Security Requirements: Not Applicable

10. Delivery Terms/Shipping/Transportation: The CitoPress will be shipped by Struers. The cost of shipping will be determined by the company as stated on the quote.

11. Place of Performance/Delivery Location: The work will be performed in building 234, room 231, floor 2, within the CIA of Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Items are expected to be delivered to Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

12. Period of Performance (PoP)/ Completion Date/ Delivery Date: Estimated Delivery date would expect to be before the end of the fiscal year but will be however long procurement takes to order the hot mount press. The services included in the quote will be rendered once the product has been wired up to power within the lab and initially set up. This would expect to be hooked up within 2 weeks of receiving the product.
