About this file

This is a Sustainability Information Sheet for Series 135 Chembuild coating produced by Tnemec Company, Inc., in support of the City of Pembroke Pines' Invitation for Bid (IFB # PSUT-25-05) for exterior stripping and coating of a 2.5-million-gallon pre-stressed concrete water storage tank. The Series 135 Chembuild is classified as an industrial maintenance coating with a Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) content of 86 g/L when unthinned and is manufactured at facilities in North Kansas City, Kansas and Baltimore, Maryland. The coating is approved for both shop and exterior applications without VOC content restrictions when applied to building exteriors. The product meets multiple sustainability standards including LEED v4.1 ID+C and BD+C Low-Emitting Materials criteria for paints and coatings, Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) standards, WELL Building Standard v2 VOC restrictions, and Living Building Challenge Health + Happiness requirements. The coating has been tested and certified under California Department of Public Health (CDPH) emissions standards with a MAS Certificate Number MAS2300889, valid from January 2024 through January 2025, demonstrating Total VOC (TVOC) levels of 0.5 mg/m³ or less at 14 days in classroom and private office scenarios.

The product documentation notes that Series 135 Chembuild does not fully meet LEED Materials and Resources Credit 2 requirements for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) or Credit 3 for Sourcing Raw Materials, and Tnemec does not currently provide publicly available Health Product Declarations (HPDs) as required for LEED MR Credit 4. The coating complies with South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Rule 1113 and conforms to the reference standard California Department of Public Health Standard Method v1.2-2017.
