About this file
This document is a Request for Proposal (RFP) for forest-wide exterior building painting services for the Helena - Lewis and Clark National Forest. The project involves painting 14 base buildings and 2 optional buildings across multiple locations, with a contract value between $25,000 and $100,000. The scope includes exterior surface preparation, one primer coat, and two exterior paint coats for various structures with different siding types (wood, metal, wood shingles, and EFIS). Contractors must use lead-free, cold-climate appropriate paint with a glossy finish, matching existing colors, and complete work within 5 calendar days per building by September 30, 2026. The buildings are located in Augusta, Stanford, Harlowton, Lincoln, and ATB areas, with estimated square footages ranging from 200 to 2,400 square feet per structure.
The RFP specifies detailed requirements for surface preparation, painting techniques, and cleanup. Contractors must clean and scrape surfaces, sand if necessary, prime bare areas, and apply paint within manufacturer-recommended weather conditions. The project mandates careful attention to different surface types, with specific preparation and painting approaches for wood, metal, wood shingles, and EFIS surfaces. All work must be completed in a clean, orderly manner, with all refuse and materials removed from the site upon project completion. The contract requires submission of technical product data, installation instructions, and paint manufacturer recommendations, including specific paint colors for each structure.
