About this file
This is a technical specification document for pressure-treated timber issued by the State of Maine's Department of Conservation, Boating Facilities Division, directed by George Powell. The specification establishes requirements for a lumber order to support boating facilities infrastructure in Richmond, Maine. The project requires three categories of Southern Pine timber: 496 pieces of 8" x 8" timbers in 12-foot lengths, 304 pieces of 8" x 8" timbers in 16-foot lengths, and 25 pieces of 3" x 12" boards in 12-foot lengths. All timber must be graded No. 2 minimum by the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau and comply with American Lumber Standards Committee standards. Delivery is required to the Department of Conservation Boating Facilities Division at 1009 Brunswick Road (Route 201) in Richmond, Maine, with advance notice of at least 48 hours required by contacting Bill Cunningham at (207) 582-7845.
The specification mandates that crib members located below the water line receive pressure treatment with either Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA) at a minimum retention of 0.60 pcf or waterborne copper-based preservatives meeting AWPA Use Category 4C standards, including Copper Azole (CA) at 0.31 pcf or Ammoniacal Copper Quat (ACQ-A&B) at 0.25 pcf. All timber must be surfaced on four sides and may be either seasoned or unseasoned. Vendors must submit planned preservative treatment specifications and treatment level certifications prior to purchase, with CCA-treated members requiring evidence of treatment date and drying time. Submittals should be directed to George Powell, Director of the Boating Facilities Division, at 22 State House Station in Augusta, Maine. The specification document was issued on February 5, 2010.
