BACKGROUND
The Schenectady City School District has conducted focus groups, listening sessions, engaged surveys, and consulted various experts in the field of school safety and security and active engagement of stakeholders starting in December 2023 through September 2024. As part of continued efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff, and school community, the District has moved to enhance school safety through the implementation of weapons detection systems in our schools.
INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE
The Schenectady City School District (hereafter “the District”) is requesting proposals from firms (hereafter known as “the Firm”) who are qualified to provide an Artificial Intelligence Monitoring, Weapons Detection and Screening System capable of automatically detecting weapons including those that may be concealed on a person as well as inside objects including but not limited to backpacks, gym bags, purses, laptop bags, and briefcases. Detects guns, knives, and explosives as well as components of weapons, such as a slide of a handgun, or a barrel of a rifle.
The proposed system must be able to automatically ignore normal, harmless personal items without the individual passing through the system having to unpack or empty backpacks, purses, laptop bags, briefcases, pockets, etc. Discriminates against everyday items such as keys, cell phones, belt buckles, water bottles. No divesting of these items needed.
