About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the Vicksburg National Military Park's project to replace the roof on the Cemetery Maintenance Building and potentially two additional housing units. The primary objective is to remove and replace the existing circa 2000 asphalt shingle roof on the approximately 2,562 square foot Cemetery Maintenance Shop, including complete removal of existing roofing components, inspection of roof decking, and installation of new roofing materials.
The scope includes detailed requirements for roof replacement, such as removing and replacing ice and water shield, drip edge flashing, and installing new 16 oz lead-coated copper flashing. Optional tasks include similar roof work for Quarters 2 (estimated 13 squares) and Quarters 4 (estimated 19 squares) housing units. The project is scheduled for early to mid-July 2025, with a 60-day performance period. Strict safety regulations must be followed, including compliance with OSHA standards, and work is restricted from June 1 to July 31 due to potential endangered bat roosting. The contractor must submit detailed material specifications, safety plans, and coordinate work to minimize disruption to park operations.

Introduction:
Vicksburg National Military Park (VICK) is comprised of several discontinuous units related to the US Civil War, including:
• The Campaign For Vicksburg: For 18 months Union and Confederate Forces engaged each other all through the region as they positioned for control of Vicksburg.
• The Siege of Vicksburg: For 47 days, the Union General US Grant held the Confederate Army and city of Vicksburg under a hard and brutal siege.
The multiple sites are managed under one administration and are located in and around a 40-mile radius surrounding Vicksburg, Mississippi. Sites related to the Campaign For Vicksburg include the Port Gibson Unit (Shaifer House), Raymond Unit (Battle of Raymond), and Champion Hill (Crossroads and Coker House). The Siege of Vicksburg sites include the main battlefield and National Cemetery within the City of Vicksburg, Pemberton's Headquarters, Louisiana Circle, Navy Circle, and the USS Cairo.
Because of the integrity of the resources, Vicksburg National Military Park, the USS Cairo, and the National Cemetery are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
