About this file
This document is a Performance Work Statement (PWS) for the Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Science (SC) partnership with the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) for the 2024 SACNAS National Diversity in STEM Conference (NDiSTEM) held in Phoenix, Arizona from October 31 to November 2, 2024.
The PWS outlines the proposed partnership activities and opportunities for SC to engage and recruit SACNAS members, including conference participation and recognition, exhibit space, interview booth, conference registrations, reception tickets, social media promotion, and sponsorship of student presentation awards and memberships. SC seeks to introduce SACNAS members to STEM research and training opportunities, particularly at DOE National Laboratories and SC's scientific user facilities. The partnership is expected to provide an exceptional outreach and engagement opportunity, as the 2023 NDiSTEM conference attracted over 6,000 participants, including over 3,500 student members.

Performance Work Statement – SACNAS Partnership 2024
The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Science (SC) supports opportunities for students, faculty, and professionals to engage in research and training opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields aligned with the SC mission areas. SC is committed to increasing participation by institutions and individuals historically underrepresented in STEM fields and professions and in SC’s research portfolio. Critical to attracting students, faculty, and research professionals to SC-sponsored opportunities is intentional engagement and recruitment through scientific professional societies, including minority-serving scientific professional societies. The Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS), founded over 49 years ago, is the leading scientific professional society dedicated to fostering the success of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in STEM. SACNAS hosts annual conferences to gather its membership to provide a convening that immerses them in cutting-edge STEM research, professional development sessions, and provides exposure to career opportunities, including those sponsored by federal science agencies, in addition to providing multicultural celebratory events honoring the traditions of the cultures of their members.
SC seeks to be a partner member in the 2024 SACNAS National Diversity in STEM Conference (NDiSTEM), occurring in Phoenix, Arizona on October 31 – November 2, 2024, and engage SACNAS members through other opportunities offered by SACNAS such as the Community College Day and advertisement of SC-sponsored training and research opportunities via the SACNAS social media platforms and digital publications. SACNAS seeks to introduce and expose their membership to a broader range of STEM research and training opportunities, particularly opportunities in the physical sciences and at DOE National Laboratories and SC’s scientific user facilities and has initiated a Silver Partner agreement to facilitate this collaboration.
The proposed partnership agreement between DOE SC and SACNAS would provide the following activities/opportunities to enable SC engagement and recruitment activities with SACNAS students, faculty, and professionals:

• Tickets to the SACNAS reception hosted by SACNAS leadership - 2
• Interview booth space with priority placement - 1 day
• Announcement of partnership on all SACNAS social channels beginning 9/1
• Featured on conference website beginning 9/1

2024 Community College Day
• Exhibit space at the Community College Resource Fair on October 30, 2024.
None of the proposed scope supports DOE SC Federal travel expenses associated with SC’s role executing the proposed scope.
SACNAS has an established a code of conduct consistent with DOE Office of Science policy for support of third party meetings or conferences. The 2023 SACNAS NDiSTEM meeting attracted over 6,000 participants, including over 3,500 student members of SACNAS, providing an exceptional outreach and engagement opportunity over the two-day expo and career fair. Participation levels for the 2024 NDiSTEM meeting is expected to exceed prior participation levels.
