SPECIFICATIONS

Femtosecond fiber lasers

A. BACKGROUND:

The Time and Frequency Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is focused on developing the next-generation optical frequency comb tools for precision time keeping, spectroscopy and metrology.

B. PURPOSE:

Work in the generation of optical frequency combs across the optical spectrum requires state-of-the-art Erbium (Er) fiber femtosecond lasers. These lasers will be built into systems that generate fully stabilized optical frequency combs

C. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

NIST requires three (3) femtosecond fiber lasers. Two of these lasers will operate at 100 MHz and the third will operate at 250 MHz

1. Two (2) EACH femtosecond fiber lasers with the following specifications

a) Er:doped fiber oscillator engineered for metrology applications, including laser head and control unit

b) Repetition rate 100 MHz,

c) Center wavelength 1560 nm +/20 nm

d) Spectral bandwidth of output >25 nm

e) Three PM (polarization maintaining) fiber coupled output ports, linearlypolarized; each port with average output power >10 mW, LC/APC connector

f) All three outputs can be turned into high power ports by adding EDFA amplifiers.

g) Monitor port, FC/APC connector.

h) Integrated stepper motor for tuning of cavity length by >330 kHz

i) Piezo actuator for repetition rate synchronization.

j) Control of CEO frequency through intracavity actuator by >100 MHz and pump power modulation for fine control and stabilization.

k) Actuators for highbandwidth intracavity feedback for the repetition rate and CEO frequency with control bandwidth of >500 kHz, (typical performance 1 MHz).

2. One (1) EACH femtosecond fiber laser with the following specifications

a) Er:doped fiber oscillator engineered for metrology applications, including laser head and control unit

b) Repetition rate 250 MHz

c) Center wavelength 1560 nm +/20 nm

d) Spectral bandwidth of output >25 nm

e) Three PM (polarization maintaining) fiber coupled output ports, linearlypolarized; each port with average output power >24 mW, LC/APC connector

f) All three outputs can be turned into high power ports by adding EDFA amplifiers.

g) Monitor port, FC/APC connector.

h) Integrated stepper motor for tuning of cavity length by >330 kHz

i) Piezo actuator for repetition rate synchronization.

j) Control of CEO frequency through intracavity actuator by >100 MHz and pump power modulation for fine control and stabilization.

k) Actuators for highbandwidth intracavity feedback for the repetition rate and CEO frequency with control bandwidth of >500 kHz, (typical performance 1 MHz).

D. TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS:

The most important considerations are the meeting of the technical specification for repetition rate, polarization maintaining output, and actuators for cavity length and CEO frequency control.

E. DELIVERABLE SCHEDULE:

Delivery shall approximately 12 weeks after receipt of order.

F. INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE:

End user will inspect and test the merchandise upon delivery. The merchandise should perform according to specifications.

G. WARRANTY:

A warranty of 12 months after delivery
