STATEMENT OF WORK

NCNR CRANE REPAIR

I. BACKGROUND

The NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) has in use a variety of cranes that it depends on daily.

This variety includes several bridge, jib, and gantry cranes, all of which are relied on for the operation of the facility. In order to provide a safe working environment for the employees, operators and guest researchers, this equipment must be maintained and operate safely. While the manufacturer’s preventive maintenance is performed, sometimes damaged and worn items must be replaced or repaired that are not covered by preventive maintenance. Also this is to provide an emergency point of contact if needed to keep the facility operating smoothly twenty-four hours a day seven days a week (24/7). This may also include minor upgrades and changes to the equipment to help it function better with the changing conditions of the facility. Thus there is a need for a specialized crane service company to perform these duties.

II. PURPOSE

Troubleshooting Electrical problems Replacing worn parts Upgrading controls Load test cranes prior to critical lifts Upgrade older equipment to new standards Getting the crane operational to complete the essential duties of the facility safely.

Performance of regular maintenance and repair of the bridge, jib and gantry cranes shall be in accordance with the U.S. Dept. of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations (Standard 029-CFR), Overhead and Gantry Cranes -1910.179.

The Contractor shall provide all tools and equipment necessary to perform the required services specified within this SOW.
