About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement of lifting screw jacks and associated hardware for NASA Langley Research Center's Direct-Connect Combustion-heated Scramjet Test Facility (DCCSTF) located in Hampton, Virginia.
The procurement requires a complete lifting system to raise and lower a 40-ton cement blast door at the B1221C facility, replacing a defunct hydraulic lift system from the 1990s. The system shall consist of two screw jacks, couplers, protective shields, and limit switches. Key technical specifications include: each screw jack capable of 50-ton vertical lift capacity; manufactured from stainless steel; minimum 150-inch travel length with clevis ends; direct drive input with 32:1 gear ratio; bearing supports equipped with protective boots to prevent foreign object debris (FOD) entry; and asymmetrical configurations where one jack has standard input on either shaft side and the other has standard input shafts on the left-hand side with limit switches on the right-hand side. The recommended vendor is MiMotion in Chesapeake, Virginia, which has already conducted a required site visit to assess design and integration requirements. Their quote for the customized hardware is included with the SOW. Delivery is required to NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA 23681.

Direct-Connect Combustion-heated Scramjet Test Facility (DCCSTF) Lifting Screw Jack and Associated Hardware
SOW - Specifications and Requirements
NASA Langley Research Center desires the purchase, and the delivery of a set of lifting screw jacks and associated coupling hardware that will conduct the raising and lowering of a 40 Ton cement blast door at of the B1221C Direct-Connect Combustion-heated Scramjet Test Facility (DSCSTF). This hardware will be permanently installed inside in the basement of the facility and will replace an already defunct hydraulic lift system installed in the 1990’s. The door is self-aligning in guided slots. The hardware will have to be compatible with the motor system selected for the facility.
The lifting screw jacks and associated hardware, by definition, shall consist of the screw jacks, couplers, protective shields, and limit switches.
Requirements for the entirety of the screw jacks and associated supporting hardware of the assembly are as follows:
1. The lifting jack screws shall be capable of 50 Ton vertical lift each.
2. The lifting jack screws shall be manufactured from stainless steel.
3. The travel length of the screws shall be 150” minimum installed.
4. The lifting jack screw ends shall be clevis ends.
5. The direct drive input shall be by standard industry practice.
6. The gear ratio of the direct drive coupling shall be 32:1.
7. The bearing supports shall include protective boots to prevent FOD entry into the screw/bearing interface.
8. One screw jack shall have standard input on either side of shaft
9. The other screw jack shall have standard input shafts on the LH shaft side of bearing housing and limit switches on RH side of shaft
The recommended vendor for this procurement is MiMotion in Chesapeake, Virginia.
The customization of the hardware for the implementation requires a site visit to assess design and integration requirements. MiMotion representatives have already conducted a site visit and evaluated the implementation requirements that drive the hardware selection. Their quote for the required hardware to complete the objectives is included.
