About this file
This is a Statement of Work for an upgrade to an existing Instru-Met electromechanical testing frame located at NASA Glenn Research Center's Soft Materials Characterization Laboratory in Cleveland, Ohio. The work will be performed by the Polymer Aerogel Group at NASA Glenn Research Center.
The project involves designing and manufacturing a custom stainless steel programmable environmental chamber to be integrated with the existing testing frame. The primary objective is to expand the system's capabilities beyond current ambient-condition testing to enable mechanical testing across a broad temperature range, from liquid nitrogen temperatures to 350 °C. This upgrade will significantly enhance the laboratory's experimental capabilities for materials characterization and testing.

State of Work - Subject: Upgrade an Instru-Met electromechanical frame
Description
The purpose of this work is to upgrade the existing Instru-Met electromechanical testing frame located in the Soft Materials Characterization Laboratory. The current system is limited to testing at ambient conditions and cannot perform experiments at controlled temperatures. To address this limitation, Instru-Met Inc. will design and manufacture a custom stainless steel programmable environmental chamber specifically for this testing frame. This upgrade will enable the system to perform mechanical testing over a broad temperature range, from liquid nitrogen (LN₂) temperatures up to 350 °C, significantly expanding its experimental capabilities.
Place of Performance
The work will be performed by the Polymer Aerogel Group at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The Instru-Met electromechanical testing frame is located in the Soft Materials Characterization Laboratory where the upgrade and subsequent experimental testing will be conducted.
