About this file
This is a Statement of Work for the purchase of ruggedized camera lenses for the Stereo Cameras for Lunar Plume-Surface Studies (SCALPSS) 2.0 project. The requirement is for 40 Jade series 16-millimeter focal length lenses manufactured by Schneider Optics, Inc., specifically configured for integration into SCALPSS flight payloads supporting NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program contracts CS-6, CT-4, and CS-8. Flight payload assembly is scheduled to begin in Q4 CY2026.
The deliverable consists of 40X JADE 2.8/16mm C-RS FI4.0 C-Mount Lenses with comprehensive ruggedization modifications including: fixed fasteners using NASA-approved materials to minimize internal element movement while maintaining Allen-screw focus adjustment capability; MidOpt filters (P/N LP170-M37x0.75) staked to the front of each lens using low/no-outgassing adhesive supplied by NASA; replacement of the standard adjustable iris with a fixed f/4.0 aperture; and manufacturing in a clean environment to prevent contamination. No formal milestones are required, though delivery of all 40 ruggedized lenses is requested at the earliest possible opportunity or by October 1, 2026. Delivery location is NASA Langley Research Center, Building 2104, Room 305-25, Mail Stop 061, Hampton, VA 23681-2199. The purchase contains no hazardous materials or IT equipment requiring additional approvals.

STATEMENT OF WORK
1.0 Introduction/Background: The Stereo Cameras for Lunar Plume-Surface Studies (SCALPSS) 2.0 project is looking to enhance the measurement data with pre-landing imagery taken on Long Focal Length (LFL) lens cameras. This purchase will be for a series of LFL lenses for inclusion in the SCALPSS flight payloads which are being assembled for the Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program CS-6, CT-4, and CS-8 contracts, awarded to several lunar lander companies across multiple flight opportunities in the coming years. Assembly of the flight payloads is to begin in Q4
CY2026.
2.0 Scope of Work: This SOW is for the SAT purchase (PR) of forty (40) Jade series ruggedized, 16-millimeter focal length lenses purchased from and manufactured by Schneider Optics, Inc. The lenses are specially configured for applications to the SCALPSS project and formatted for the cameras that have been selected by the SCALPSS team, based on ongoing collaboration between the Schneider Optics, Inc., and the Langley SCALPSS Team.
3.0 Objectives: The quantity of 40 lenses shall have the following specifications to meet the Space-Ruggedized requirements for the SCALPSS project:
• Jade series 16-mm focal length lens, formatted for 1.2” sensor format.
• The joints and/or fasteners within the lens shall be fixed in place with a NASA approved material to minimize movement of any elements within the lens. These elements include the internal lens threads, the retaining rings, and the lens elements. The Allen-screw focus adjustment capability shall be maintained.
• The lenses shall have MidOpt filters (P/N LP170-M37x0.75) staked onto the front of each lens using a low/no-outgassing adhesive. The filters will be provided by NASA and shipped to the manufacturer ARO.
• The lenses will have the normal adjustable iris replaced with a fixed aperture at the f/4.0 setting.
• Shall be manufactured and ruggedized in a clean environment with care taken to avoid any contamination internal or external to the lenses by dust, adhesives, or other particulates.
4.0 Deliverables: The SAT purchase (PR) shall include the following purchase from Schneider Optics, Inc:
• 40X JADE 2.8/16mm C-RS FI4.0 C-Mount Lenses, with the above ruggedization steps completed.
Other Considerations:
• There are no formal Milestones required for this Statement of Work, although delivery of the 40x ruggedized lenses is requested at the earliest possible opportunity, or by October 1 2026.
Applicable Documents/Background:
• This purchase does not contain hazardous materials or IT equipment so no further purchase approvals are required/attached.
