About this file
This is a procurement specification document for optical detection equipment required for a lidar system, with delivery expected by December 7, 2026, to 21 Langley Blvd B1250 R155, Hampton VA 23681.
The procurement includes five line items totaling 14 units of specialized photomultiplier and hybrid photodetector components. Item 1 specifies 4 Hamamatsu R5916-64 Microchannel Plate Photomultiplier Tubes with fast gating capability (3ns-10μs gate width, ≤1ns turn-on/off times) for 470nm detection of atmospheric and ocean signals; key parameters include >1.0×10⁵ gain at 3000V, >10% quantum efficiency at 470nm, and SMA-R/SHV-R connectors. Item 2 requires 4 R9880U-300 Metal Package Photomultiplier Tubes optimized for 470nm with >30% quantum efficiency at 450nm, using Extended Green Bialkali photocathode material and venetian blind dynode structure. Item 3 specifies 2 R9880U-116 Metal Package tubes for 290/300nm detection with >33% quantum efficiency at 300nm and Super Bialkali photocathode. Item 4 calls for 3 R10467U-40 Hybrid Photodetectors (low afterpulse) for 470nm with >40% quantum efficiency and GaAsP photocathode material. Item 5 requires 1 C13265 Dual Power Supply unit with dual voltage outputs (0-500V at 500μA and 0 to -8.5kV at 2μA) for the hybrid photodetectors. All detectors are specified for integration into existing lidar system electronics and mechanical housings.

ITEM 1: Microchannel Plate Photomultiplier Detectors
Hamamatsu Part Number (or equivalent): R5916-64 Microchannel Plate Photomultiplier Tube (Quantity 4)
Detectors for an existing lidar system are required for the addition of new measurements detected at 470nm to detector fast transient signals from the atmosphere and the ocean. The detector requires the parameters below and will be integrated into existing post detector electronics and data system control. A key requirement is these the ability to have fast gating control. The dimensions are also required for integration into existing mechanical and optical configurations that be leveraged from the current implementation at other wavelengths. These detectors will be provided as a modified configuration as a bare unit that is not packaged with the bare wires pigtailed from the detector module.
