About this file

This is a Statement of Work for the development of a custom-built 3-channel constant temperature anemometer (CTA) system. The project addresses the government's need for high-bandwidth, research-grade flow measurement capabilities in supersonic and hypersonic flow regimes, as current commercially available systems from manufacturers such as Dantec Dynamics and TSI Incorporated do not meet required specifications. The existing commercial units in the organization are designed for lower-speed flows, while the older high-performance units that previously met requirements are no longer available on the market. The government's current CTA systems are over 30 years old and failing due to age, and attempts to work with commercial manufacturers to develop suitable replacements have been unsuccessful.

The contractor's primary deliverable is a second three-channel CTA system comprising three CTA Modules and one Power Supply-Oscillator Module, to be developed based on an earlier functional 3-channel CTA system previously delivered by the same contractor. The system will incorporate minor improvements to enhance user experience. Additional deliverables include a user manual comparable to the one provided with the first system. The project objectives are to provide high-bandwidth flow measurements while maintaining low system noise and achieving overall performance superior to commercially available systems in the United States. The expected work schedule is approximately five months from contract award. Specifications and additional technical details are contained in an accompanying specification document referenced in the Statement of Work.

Statement of Work

1. Introduction/Background: Current CTA systems that are commercially available in the US from companies like Dantec Dynamics and TSI Incorporated do not meet our required specifications for high-bandwidth, research-grade systems applicable for high-speed flow applications. The commercial systems are now overly simplified for plug-and-play type applications and are more tailored for university laboratories. This new CTA system promises the flexibility needed for expert users. We have commercial CTAs currently on the market in our organization that are more applicable to lower speed flows and the older commercial units with higher performance are no longer on the market. We have attempted to work with these manufacturers in past years to deliver a system for our current needs, but we have been unsuccessful. The older commercial systems from the previously named companies that met our needs are no longer available and the units we have are failing due to age (units are 30+ years old).

2. Scope of Work: This project will result in a custom-built 3-channel constant temperature anemometer (CTA) system that promises to address our needs for supersonic / hypersonic flow measurements.

3. Objectives: Provide high-bandwidth flow measurements in supersonic / hypersonic flow regimes while maintain low system noise. Goal is to provide a CTA system with better overall performance than commercially available systems in the US.

4. Description of the Work/Contractor Tasks: Project is to develop a 3-channel CTA system based on the earlier functional 3-channel CTA system developed by this contractor Minor adjustments will be implemented to improve the user experience versus the first 3-channel CTA system. See the accompanying specification document for more details.

5. Deliverables: The primary deliverable for the proposed project is a second three-channel CTA system consisting of three CTA Modules and a single Power Supply-Oscillator Module.

Additional deliverables will include a user manual along the lines of the one delivered with the first 3-channel CTA system. Work schedule is expected to be approximately 5 months from contract award.
