About this file
This is a Statement of Work for the repair and calibration of an ERB SE-12 Magtrol dynamometer at Glenn Research Center (GRC). The dynamometer sustained significant water damage from a burst HVAC coil in the test cell and was shipped to Magtrol, the original equipment manufacturer, in March 2026 for evaluation. Magtrol completed its inspection in June 2026 and determined the unit is repairable at an estimated cost of approximately half the price of full replacement.
The work is being sourced exclusively to Magtrol as the sole vendor qualified to perform repair and calibration services on Magtrol dynamometers. The manufacturer's equipment incorporates proprietary components, firmware, and calibration methods not available to third-party service providers, making only Magtrol capable of restoring the unit to OEM specifications and accuracy requirements. Alternative vendors lack the technical capability and authorization to service Magtrol systems, and engaging a non-OEM provider would introduce unnecessary packaging, handling, transportation expenses, and increased risk of further damage along with additional delays to the research schedule. The Statement of Work was prepared by Jaimie N Thomas, Mechanical Test Engineer at GRC ERB, and dated June 26, 2026.

Statement of Work for ERB SE-12 Magtrol Dynamometer Repair
The Magtrol dynamometer experienced significant water intrusion resulting from a burst HVAC coil in the test cell. The unit was shipped to Magtrol, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), in March 2026 for evaluation to determine whether it could be repaired or if full replacement would be required. Magtrol completed its inspection in June 2026 and determined that the unit is repairable, with an estimated repair cost at approximately half the cost of replacement.
Magtrol is the sole vendor qualified to perform repair and calibration services on their dynamometers. Their equipment incorporates proprietary components, firmware, and calibration methods that are not available to third-party service providers. As a result, only Magtrol can ensure the unit is restored to OEM specifications and accuracy requirements.
Sourcing the repair to a third-party vendor is not practical or cost-effective, as alternative vendors lack the technical capability and authorization to service Magtrol systems. Additionally, shipping the unit to any non-OEM provider would introduce unnecessary packaging, handling, and transportation expenses, along with increased risk of further damage and additional delays to the research schedule.
