About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a maintenance service contract for a LECO GC×GC-MS Pegasus HRT+ 4D laboratory instrument at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The contract period runs from June 2, 2026 to June 1, 2028, with performance taking place at Building 34, C174 in the Astrobiology Analytical Laboratory (AAL). The instrument is used for analyzing unknown trace organic species in complex mixtures to support NASA's astrobiology research goals and current missions including OSIRIS-REx, Artemis, and MMX.

The contractor shall provide a Platinum Maintenance Plan delivered by a qualified technician/engineer that includes one annual preventive maintenance visit, unlimited repair visits with all labor and travel expenses covered, and unlimited SmartLine remote diagnostic usage. The plan covers all standard preventive maintenance consumables and provides priority scheduling and technical support compared to lower-tier coverage options. All labor costs are included at no charge for any service visits, repairs, or relocations conducted throughout the contract period. The service is essential for maintaining uninterrupted analytical capabilities supporting extraterrestrial material analysis from NASA missions and terrestrial sample research.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Service Contract for Two-Dimensional Gas Chromatograph High Resolution Time of

Flight with GC×GC Mass Spectrometry System

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center

June 2nd, 2026 - June 1st, 2028

PR:

Objective:

The two-dimensional gas chromatograph high resolution mass spectrometer (LECO GC×GC-MS

Pegasus HRT+ 4D) is a laboratory instrument used for the analysis of unknown trace organic species in complex mixtures beyond those possible with conventional GC-MS systems. The increased capabilities of the GC×GC-MS HRT+ 4D assists with the identification of the nature and sources of organic compounds that may have contributed to the origin of life, directly addressing goals of NASA’s Strategic Plan to “what established the primordial inventories of volatile elements and compounds in the inner solar system?”. In addition, this instrument suite provides support testing for contamination and sample analysis for the OSIRIS-REx mission in

FY26-27. This instrument suite is a core component of the Astrobiology Analytical Laboratory

(AAL) and therefore a maintenance service contract from the manufacturer is imperative.

Background:

The Astrobiology Analytical Laboratory (AAL) in code 691 uses state-of-the-art commercial analytical instruments to investigate the distribution, origin, and formation processes of organic compounds in a variety of samples. These samples include extraterrestrial materials (e.g., carbonaceous meteorites or samples returned from NASA missions such as Stardust, OSIRIS-

REx, and Artemis), terrestrial natural samples, and laboratory analogs. The acquisition of a maintenance service contract for the GC×GC-MS HRT+ 4D in the AAL is necessary for the uninterrupted and prompt completion of the analyses serving current and future space missions such as Artemis and MMX.

Deliverables:

The GC×GC-MS HRT+ 4D service contract shall be provided by a technician/engineer who will perform the necessary work to provide up-to-specification maintenance, optimal tuning, and set up the instrument system in the laboratory.

The Platinum Maintenance Plan provides an annual preventive maintenance visit (PM) and unlimited visits for instrument repairs, which includes all labor, travel expenses, and standard

PM consumables. Instruments covered under the Platinum Maintenance Plan will receive priority scheduling and technical support over instruments without coverage and instruments with Gold coverage. Contractor will provide unlimited SmartLine usage, which allows the contractors service engineers to diagnose and troubleshoot issues quickly in-person and remotely.

Additionally, all labor will be applied at no cost to any service visit (repairs or relocations) conducted throughout the time of the contract.

Place of Performance:

Service provided through the support plans shall be carried out at Goddard Space Flight Center in the Astrobiology Analytical Laboratory (Building 34, C174).

Period of Performance:

Support plans shall be provided with dates of coverage from June 2nd, 2026 to June 1st, 2028.
