About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA Langley Research Center's requirement for specialized ceramic coating services supporting advanced materials testing and evaluation. The SOW requires applying two specific ceramic coatings to test specimens and components: PTI 5 (CrC-NiCr) coating with 3-5 mil thickness and PTI 214 (Alumina) coating with 8-10 mil thickness. The work encompasses coating 1 drum section and 240 total test specimen rounds (made of Al6061 and Ti-6Al-4V substrates), along with precision grinding services to meet exact specifications. Contractor tasks include coating application, pre- and post-coat grinding, quality assurance through visual inspections, and documentation of coating parameters. Deliverables are to be completed within 15-20 working days after substrate receipt, with quality reports and material certification documents accompanying the coated components.

STATEMENT OF WORK TEMPLATE

1.0 Introduction/Background: NASA Langley Research Center requires specialized ceramic coating services to support ongoing research programs involving advanced materials testing and evaluation. The effort addresses the need for consistent, high-performance protective coatings on test specimens and components that will be subjected to extreme operating conditions. Previous testing has established that specific coating formulations are critical to research continuity and data validity. This requirement ensures the continuation of established research programs while maintaining consistency with historical performance data and coating specifications.

2.0 Scope of Work: This Statement of Work covers the application of specialized ceramic coatings to NASA-furnished substrates, including complex geometries such as drum sections and test specimen rounds. The work encompasses coating application and precision grinding services to ensure coating specifications are met.

3.0 Objectives: This section is intended to provide a statement of the overall effect this requirement will achieve.

4.0 Description of the Work/Contractor Tasks: The overall objective is to provide NASA with consistently applied, high-quality ceramic coatings that meet thickness and performance specifications, enabling continuation of critical research programs while maintaining data consistency with previous testing efforts.

Task 1: Coating Application Services

• Apply PTI 5 (CrC-NiCr) coating with 3-5 mil thickness to drum section/cutting edge components

• Apply PTI 5 (CrC-NiCr) coating with 3-5 mil thickness to 120 test specimen rounds (60 Al6061, 60 Ti-6Al-4V substrates)

• Apply PTI 214 (Alumina) coating with 8-10 mil thickness to 120 test specimen rounds (60 Al6061, 60 Ti-6Al-4V substrates)

• Ensure edge radius of 5-10 degrees on drum section components as specified Task 2: Precision Grinding Services

• Perform pre-coat grinding preparation as required using specialized tooling

• Perform post-coat grinding to achieve final dimensional specifications

• Maintain precise tolerances throughout grinding operations

Task 3: Quality Assurance

• Perform visual inspection for coating uniformity and defects

• Document coating parameters and process controls

Review and Approval Points:

• Pre-coating inspection of substrate preparation

• Final visual inspection
