About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA Goddard's procurement of an ExactaCoat Ultrasonic Spray Coating System from Sono-Tek for developing high-performance chemical sensors. The system requires a benchtop ultrasonic spray coater with specific technical specifications, including a XYZ servo motion system (400 mm × 400 mm × 100 mm range), ultrasonic nozzle, integrated generator, syringe pump, heated vacuum plate, and programmable PC software. Key technical requirements include 0.04 mm motion repeatability, spray width selectability from 0.010" to 6", syringe pump flow range of 0.01 µL/hr to 71 mL/min, and compatibility with nanoparticle suspensions.

The procurement involves delivering the complete system within 10-12 weeks after order receipt, with all components to be manufactured at the contractor's site and delivered to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Deliverables include the ultrasonic spray system, syringe pump, heating vacuum plate, ultrasonic nozzle, software, PC, manuals, and warranty documentation. The solicitation is a sole source procurement specifically targeting Sono-Tek Corporation, with a response deadline of 7/29/2025 for potential competitors to submit capabilities and qualifications.

STATEMENT OF WORK FORMAT

Ultrasonic Spray Coating System July 15th, 2025

PR: _____________________

Note: Only use the sections that are applicable to your service procurement.

Background

NASA Goddard is developing high-performance chemical sensors (PI: Sultana) that require uniform and reproducible deposition of nanoparticle-based coatings. Manual airbrush techniques have introduced significant variability in coating thickness, uniformity, and sensor performance. To improve fabrication yield and enable automated process control, we require an ultrasonic spray coater with programmable control and fine droplet generation.

Scope

The contractor shall supply one ExactaCoat Ultrasonic Spray Coating System by

Sono-Tek, configured for benchtop use and equipped with:

▪ XYZ servo motion system (400 mm × 400 mm × 100 mm range).

▪ Ultrasonic nozzle (AccuMist, Impact, or Vortex – user choice).

▪ Integrated ultrasonic generator and control electronics.

▪ Syringe pump for liquid delivery.

▪ Heated vacuum plate (max. temp 150°C).

▪ PC with software for programmable spray control.

▪ New wetted components (tubing, valve, syringe).

▪ System refurbished and tested by Sono-Tek with standard warranty.

Requirements

▪ Motion repeatability: 0.04 mm.

▪ Spray width: selectable via nozzle (0.010"–6").

▪ Syringe pump flow range: 0.01 µL/hr to 71 mL/min.

▪ Material compatibility: nanoparticle suspensions.

▪ Software-controlled spray recipes.

▪ Power: 110/220 V.

▪ Air: 80 PSI dry, unlubricated.

Deliverables or Delivery Schedule

▪ ExactaCoat ultrasonic spray system.

▪ Syringe pump and full wetted path (all new).

▪ Heating vacuum plate.

▪ One ultrasonic nozzle.

▪ Software, PC, and manuals.

▪ Warranty and installation documentation.

Government-Furnished Equipment and Government-Furnished Information

▪ No Government-furnished equipment (GPE) and Government-furnished information (GFI).

Place of Performance

▪ The above items shall be manufactured at the contractor’s site, delivered to

NASA\GSFC and installed by NASA\GSFC personnel.

Period of Performance

▪ System to be delivered within 10–12 weeks after receipt of order.
