About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA's requirement for 235 Intermet Radiosondes for the SHADOZ (Southern Hemisphere ADditional OZonesondes) long-term ozonesonde measurement network. The order covers a one-year period from September 2025 to August 2026, with radiosondes to be shipped to two locations: 55 units to US Space Force personnel in Melbourne, Florida for the Ascension Island station, and 180 units (two types) to NOAA colleagues in Boulder, Colorado. The instruments are critical for continuing multi-decadal balloon-borne ozone profile records used for satellite validation, ozone and pollution trend analysis, and climate studies.

The SOW specifies that SHADOZ station operators will prepare, launch, and collect data from the Intermet Radiosondes, then send the data to NASA/GSFC in Greenbelt, Maryland. The performance will take place at SHADOZ stations located in tropical regions, ensuring consistency with existing records and compatibility with current ground data collection systems. The procurement is intended to be a sole-source contract with International Met Systems under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), with the NASA/NSSC acting as the procuring center.

STATEMENT OF WORK

2025 SHADOZ Intermet Radiosonde Order

PR: 4200909146

Background

The SHADOZ long-term ozonesonde measurement network needs to continue their multi-decadal balloon borne ozone profile records for satellite validation, ozone and pollution trends, and climate studies. This requirement is for 235 total Intermet Radiosondes. The Intermet Radiosondes are required to ensure consistency with the existing SHADOZ records, and compatibility with the ground data collection systems currently in place at several SHADOZ stations.

Scope

The operators at SHADOZ stations shall prepare, launch, and collect the data from the Intermet Radiosondes, and send the data to NASA/GSFC in Greenbelt, MD.

These instruments will either be shipped to US Space Force personnel in

Melbourne, Florida, who assist with the logistics and shipping for the Ascension Island SHADOZ station (55 Intermet Radiosondes), or will be shipped to NOAA SHADOZ colleagues in Boulder, CO (180 Intermet Radiosondes, two types).

Place of Performance

This work (launching these instruments on free-flying weather balloons) will be performed at SHADOZ stations in the tropics.

Period of Performance

This order represents an approximately one-year supply of Intermet Radiosondes to be launched from ~September 2025 to August 2026.
