About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for an unsolicited proposal titled "Support for Evaluation of Scattering Effects in Coronagraphy". The work provides scientific and engineering analysis of phenomena associated with coherent and incoherent backgrounds, and their impact on speckle instability in the dark zones created by coronagraphs. The specific tasks include designing the modeling approach for Coronagraph Narrow Angle Scatter (NAS), supporting the execution of a coronagraph NAS model, creating a conference talk and report on NAS impact, investigating potential post-processing improvement algorithms, and incorporating post-processing improvements into the error budget. The period of performance is 6 months from the date of award.

The related federal contract opportunity is a sole source procurement by NASA/NSSC to acquire the required services from Tellus1 Scientific. The NAICS code for this procurement is 541715. NASA/MSFC will be the procuring center, and the performance location will be at NASA/MSFC. The Government intends to acquire commercial items and services using FAR Part 12 and FAR Part 13 procedures. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications by 6/13/2024 for the Government's consideration in determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.

FOR THE

UNSOLICTED PROPOSAL:

Support for Evaluation of Scattering Effects in Coronagraphy

5/28/2024

The work provides scientiic and engineering analysis of the phenomena associated with coherent and incoherent backgrounds, and their impact on speckle instability in the dark zones created by coronagraphs.

The speciic work includes:

1. Design of the modeling approach for Coronagraph Narrow Angle Scatter (NAS)

2. Support for the execution of a coronagraph NAS model

3. Creation of a conference talk and report on NAS impact on Exo-Earth coronagraphs

4. Investigation of potential post-processing improvement algorithms

5. Incorporation of post-processing improvements into error budget

Tasks to be performed will correspond to milestone payments (as proposed) according to the schedule below:
