About this file

This document includes a statement of work and federal contract opportunity notice for the procurement of Schneider Electric programmable logic controller hardware by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The statement of work specifies that NASA's FT Division seeks to purchase additional M580 PLC hardware from Schneider Electric to standardize control systems across its facilities, as the agency's existing PLC hardware is becoming obsolete. The hardware requirements include support for Unity XL software, expansion capability to 16 remote I/O drops, DIO and RIO scanning, Achilles level 2 certification, and standard 115 VAC power. The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number 80NSSC24860798Q issued by NASA Shared Services Center to obtain the M580 PLC hardware in order to operate test facilities at NASA's Glenn Research Center, as described in the attached request for quotation and statement of work.

Statement of Work for Procurement of M580 Programmable Logic Controller Hardware

The FT Division has committed to invest in the next Schneider Electric PLC hardware product line after discovering that their previous hardware is to become obsolete. Schneider Electric representatives have informed NASA at the end of 2016 that this was coming, and officially in 2018 by releasing their end of commercialization notification. The hardware is no longer being manufactured, but they plan to support this hardware line through 2026. However, Schneider is no longer manufacturing any of the older processors, resulting in potential issues finding replacement hardware. NASA has accrued “spare” Schneider hardware over the years, and has already invested funding into M580 hardware. Multiple M580 systems have been upgraded throughout Lewis field. FT would like to continue to standardize around this, so purchasing M580 for remaining facilities that need this upgrade is imperative.
