About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement of Schneider Electric Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) hardware, specifically the M580 product line, to upgrade NASA's test facilities at the Glenn Research Center (GRC).
The SOW indicates that NASA's previous PLC hardware is becoming obsolete, and Schneider Electric has notified NASA that the existing hardware will no longer be manufactured after 2026. As a result, NASA has already invested in and deployed M580 PLC systems across multiple facilities and seeks to continue standardizing on this platform. The SOW provides detailed technical specifications for the required M580 hardware components, including processors, power supplies, racks, and Ethernet communication modules. The corresponding federal contract opportunity, Solicitation Number 80NSSC24860798Q, seeks to procure this PLC hardware for the test facilities at NASA GRC.

Statement of Work for Procurement of M580 Programmable Logic Controller Hardware
The FT Division has committed to invest in the next Schneider Electric PLC hardware product line after discovering that their previous hardware is to become obsolete. Schneider Electric representatives have informed NASA at the end of 2016 that this was coming, and officially in 2018 by releasing their end of commercialization notification. The hardware is no longer being manufactured, but they plan to support this hardware line through 2026. However, Schneider is no longer manufacturing any of the older processors, resulting in potential issues finding replacement hardware. NASA has accrued “spare” Schneider hardware over the years, and has already invested funding into M580 hardware. Multiple M580 systems have been upgraded throughout Lewis field. FT would like to continue to standardize around this, so purchasing M580 for remaining facilities that need this upgrade is imperative.
