About this file

This document is a Salient Characteristics specification for a dual-compartment waste fluid collection vehicle built on a heavy-duty vocational chassis. The vehicle must be constructed on a newer model year severe-duty chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating between 52,000 and 60,000 lbs, featuring front axle capacity of 18,000-20,000 lbs and rear tandem axle capacity of 40,000-44,000 lbs. The chassis must be equipped with a severe-duty inline-6 turbo diesel engine producing 330-370 HP, a 6-speed automatic transmission with PTO provision, air-ride cab mounting, dual heated/powered mirrors, air-ride driver seat, backup alarm, integrated wireless/USB connectivity, and a minimum 70-gallon aluminum fuel tank.

The cargo tank must provide 3,500-4,000 total U.S. gallons in a dual-compartment configuration: a front compartment of 2,700-2,900 gallons for waste oil and a rear compartment of 800-1,000 gallons for glycol/antifreeze. The tank shall be constructed to DOT 406 specifications using minimum 1/4-inch marine-grade aluminum with 100% continuously welded heads and bulkheads. The tank must include a minimum of two 1/4-inch transverse baffles and one full-length 1/4-inch longitudinal anti-surge bulkhead, dual full-length U-shaped aluminum subframe channels with two front spring-mounted and four rear solid-mounted tie-downs, and minimum two 20-inch manways with 10-inch lockable inspection hatches, full-length slip-resistant walkway, and integrated front ladder with safety platform.

The dual-fluid distribution system requires a PTO-driven positive displacement rotary gear pump with minimum 3-inch inlet/outlet connections and a 5-function, 2-compartment manifold capable of loading via filtration, pressurized unloading, gravity discharge, external fluid transfer, and cross-compartment transfer. The system must incorporate two 3-inch air-operated internal safety valves, integrated high-capacity filtration with minimum 8-gallon reservoir and 1/8-inch perforated removable filter basket (with spare), weather-tight exterior control panel with pump switches, manual valve controls with safety tags, and dual liquid-filled pressure-vacuum gauges with permanent operational plumbing schematic placard.

Advanced electronic safety systems include an automated overfill prevention interlock with minimum two internal tank float switches and emergency shut-off switches at the exterior control panel and tank dome, plus a 2-compartment intrinsically safe digital tank level indicator system with continuous electronic level floats and real-time gallon-accurate digital display in the cab. A pneumatic tank venting system with 3.5-inch air-operated push-vent must automatically open when internal cargo valves engage and vent via 3-inch lines away from the operator workspace.

The severe cold weather package shall include dedicated heating in the driver's side pump compartment, a minimum 1,000-Watt commercial-grade power inverter that automatically draws from chassis batteries during transit and switches to 120V shore-power when stationary, electric heater capacity of minimum 120V/1.5 kW, auxiliary fan-heater output of minimum 16,000 BTU, a 120V continuous 6 GPM fluid circulation pump with integrated thermal expansion reservoir, in-cab master battery disconnect floor switch, illuminated heater-active warning light, and external 120V 30-Amp weather-tight shore power receptacle.
