About this file

This document details the salient characteristics for Respondus LockDown Browser, outlining the U.S. Army's requirements for a browser-based assessment management system. The Army seeks a solution that prevents student cheating by locking down browser and keyboard functions, including full-screen assessments that cannot be minimized, disabled screen capture and printing, prevention of application access, and removal of menu and toolbar options. Additionally, the system must integrate with learning management platforms like Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, and Brightspace, and provide capabilities for test bank management, exam creation without internet connectivity, offline delivery, and custom reporting features. The document specifies requirements for creating, sharing, and managing assessments across the Army's Enterprise Lifelong Learning Center and Lifelong Learning Environment.

The Army requires the capability of mitigating student cheating by locking down browser and keyboard functions. The complete list of requirements includes:

Assessments are displayed full-screen and cannot be minimized.

Assessments cannot be exited until submitted by users for grading.

Prevents access to other applications including messaging, screen-sharing, virtual machines, and remote desktops.

Printing and screen capture functions are disabled.

Copying and pasting anything to or from an assessment is prevented.

Assessments that are set up for use with LockDown Browser cannot be accessed with other browsers.

Right-click menu options, function keys, keyboard shortcuts, and task switching are disabled.

Browser menu and toolbar options are removed, except for Back, Forward, Refresh and Stop.

The Army also requires the capability of creating, reusing, and sharing assessments between instructors and training developers who use the Enterprise Lifelong Learning Center and the Army Lifelong Learning Environment Commercial Managed Hosting (current vendor Blackboard). The complete list of requirements includes:

Integrates with Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, and Brightspace.

Provides for the building of test banks and exams external to Blackboard.

Provides offline rapid import into any Blackboard course.

Supports creation of exams without Internet connectivity.

Provides for offline delivery (which cannot be done from Blackboard). This is an important feature so when Blackboard goes down or is unavailable, instructors can use hardcopies.

Provides test bank management tools that increase the capability of the existing Blackboard test tools.

Supports the import of questions from external sources (Word, Excel, etc.).

Supports more efficient use of instructor time by building, exporting, and sharing exam questions.

Provides custom reports, such as student scores, summary statistics, and answer distributions.
