About this file
This is a Salient Characteristics document outlining the specifications and requirements for the procurement of an OMAX 55100 Abrasive Jet water cutting system for Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. The Metals Technology Section seeks this equipment to replace an aging water jet due to increased service and repair needs driven by F-35 workload demands. The replacement will reduce downtime and increase production capabilities. The procurement aligns with a parallel purchase by partner unit DET-9 to enable cross-flow of repair parts and assets.
The OMAX 55100 specifications include a footprint of 15'1" L x 8'9" W x 10' H with a work envelope of 8'4" X-axis, 4'7" Y-axis, and 8" Z-axis with motorized control. The system must feature linear accuracy of ±.001", cutting speeds of 180 in/min, and noise generation below 80 dBA at one meter. The equipment requires three-phase, 380-480 VAC 10%, 50-60 Hz electrical service and includes a 30 HP pump with continuous 0.067 GPM @ 60,000 PSI capacity with 1,000-hour maintenance intervals, meeting federal green energy requirements. The procurement includes a 2-year standard warranty with free 5-day training, 3-day on-site installation, and software support. Add-on packages available include a Water Recycling System with 5-ton chiller, Collision Sensing Terrain Follower, Tilt-A-Jet cutting head, and Variable Speed Solids Removal System. An IUID tag plate per MIL-STD-130x is required.

SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
FOR PURCHASE OF OMAX 55100 Water Jet
FOR
Metals Technology Section, Fabrication Flight
LUKE AFB, AZ
The Metals Technology Section has developed the need for a new water jet due to an increased need for service and repairs to the current water jet, induced by the age and extensive use of this machine. The capabilities needed to support the F-35 workload size and replacing our current water jet with the upgraded 55100 will eliminate down time due to repairs and increase our production capabilities due to increased power and machine capabilities. The specific need for the 55100 is based on our partner unit DET - 9 procuring the same water jet allowing cross flow of repair parts and assets.

Add Ons Package:
Water Recycling System (WRS) - 5 ton Chiller, 2 CT, Single Pump
Collision Sensing Terrain Follower (CSTF) - Allows operator to set the machine standoff once at the start of cutting and then the CSTF constantly and continuously compensates for material height changes to maintain precise standoff. In addition to maintaining precise standoff, the CSTF also detects potential collisions and pauses the machine to avoid hardware damage. The simple and compact design requires no additional programming, and is compatible with the Motorized Z-Axis or Tilt-A-Jet cutting heads.
Tilt-A-Jet - lets the OMAX Jet Machining Center achieve virtually zero taper with most materials. The Tilt-A-Jet can position the nozzle at an angle calculated by the software to exactly offset the taper from the abrasive jet. Taper doesn't disappear--it just gets moved to the scrap part of the material, leaving your part with exactly square edges.
VS-SRS - Variable Speed Solids Removal System, Single Hopper
IUID tag plate per MIL-STD-130x
