About this file
The document is a Salient Characteristics specification sheet for a Crafco Super Shot 125 Melter solicitation by the Air Force Test Center at Eglin AFB, Florida. The government requires a diesel-powered, 125-gallon melter with specific technical specifications, including a 41.6 horsepower electric-start engine, dual-axle trailer with independent rubber torsional suspension, heated hose and wand system, and a fully integrated control box with thermostatic temperature regulation. Critical requirements include on-site delivery to Duke Field, a certified sales representative providing hands-on training, and strict compliance with detailed equipment specifications across five key system components: trailer/engine, hose/wand, material tank, air compressor, and control systems.
The solicitation (FA282325Q0067) is a firm-fixed price contract for commercial products, with questions due by 6 August 2025 at 10:00 CT. Delivery will be to Building 3031 Clay Street at Eglin AFB, with the vendor required to schedule delivery in advance and provide on-site setup and operational instruction. The specification emphasizes "hard requirements" with "no exceptions" for each technical specification, indicating strict evaluation criteria for potential vendors. The document represents a comprehensive technical requirement for a specialized asphalt/sealant melter equipment procurement by the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Test Center.

Salient Characteristics 31 July 2025
1. The Government requests delivery of Crafco Super Shot 125 Melter to Eglin AFB, Duke Field.
796 CES/CEORH
Building 3031 Clay Street. (Duke Field) Eglin AFB, FL. 32542
Government Points of Contact will be provided after the contract is awarded.
2. The vender shall call Government Point(s) of Contact to schedule delivery during the hours of (0645 to 1630) not later than one business day in advance of anticipated delivery. At which time, the Government will provide the exact location for that particular delivery. Upon delivery, a certified sales representative will be present on site to provide hands on training and set up and operational instruction to Government personal at no addition cost to the government. This is a hard requirement, no exceptions.
3. The Government is requesting a Crafco Super Shot 125 Melter or equal.
These are the minimal requirements that the Government is willing to accept in order to successfully complete these projected projects within the time and budget that has been allotted.
1. A minimum of a diesel-powered engine. This is a hard requirement, no exceptions. The engine will be electric start 41.6 horsepower. Digital engine controller shall have a gauge package that includes battery voltage, hour meter, and engine RPM. It shall also have an Auto Start function which preheats and starts the engine. Mounted on an extended double axel trailer with compressor with engine cover. This is a hard requirement, no exceptions. The unit shall be equipped with a dual independent rubber torsional suspension having a safe load capacity of 3,500 pounds, electric brakes, modular wheels and tubeless tires (Load
Range C). (Trailers with springs and shackles are unacceptable as they require more maintenance and reduce ground clearance). The unit shall have dual LED taillights, stoplights and turn signals. Lights shall be ICC approved. The unit shall also be equipped with two safety chains not less than 48 inches.
2. Both the hose and wand are heated by 24 VAC voltage electric current and are temperature regulated. The combination length between the hose and wand shall not be less than 22 feet. The hose shall be specifically manufactured for handling liquid asphalt products up to
500° F at 500 psi working pressure. Hose shall not be less than 18 feet in length. The hose is to be wrapped with a minimum of three electrical wires with terminal ends. The wires will be capable of heating the hose to 400°F in less than 45 minutes and have variable temperature control capability. The hand wand shall not be less than 4 feet in length. The hand wand shall be constructed of steel with sufficient strength to withstand normal day-to-day operation. Material flow is controlled by a trigger switch. For greater operator mobility, the connection between the wand and hose shall be through a 360° swivel. The hose is supported by a 68” boom, which swivels side to side. This action is controlled by an adjustable braking system for un-even road surfaces. The boom is equipped with a pivoting strut, which lowers as the operator moves away from the unit and rises as the operator moves closer to the unit (this keeps the hose from contacting the ground). The boom is equipped with two hose hangers that pivot and twist with any hose movement that may occur during normal operation. The application hose will be heated and shall have operator assist on the hose boom for easy operator control. The boom is centered at the rear of the machine.
3. The tank shall be 125 gallon diesel fueled melter. This is a hard requirement, no exceptions. Machine shall be capable of dispensing sealant material within one hour of start up at a 70° F. This is a hard requirement, no exceptions. The melter shall have continuous sealant agitation and a mixing system to provide uniform viscosity and temperature of material being applied. The unit shall have a safety shut-off on the lid that automatically stops the agitator when the lid is opened. This is a hard requirement, no exceptions. A low profile opening for loading shall be required at the top of the material tank and shall be located on the curbside of the machine for operator safety. The loading height shall be a minimum of
50 inches and shall not exceed 59 inches for correct ergonomic lifting and fume exposure.
Lid shall be hinged to allow placement of a block of sealant onto lid and closure of lid for easy, anti-splash loading. This is a hard requirement, no exceptions.
4. The melter shall be equipped with a 70 Cubic Feet per Minute @ 125 PSI, rotary vane air compressor. This is a hard requirement, no exceptions. The compressor shall be driven hydraulically (belt drive compressors are non-conforming). Air pressure shall be controlled by a continual intake valve modulation, which adjusts air flow to increase or decrease depending on user demand. 50 foot of 3/4” air hose with Chicago quick couplers on each end and a storage rack shall be supplied along with a cold air lance. For greater operator mobility, the connection between the cold air lance and air hose shall be through a 360° swivel.
Equipped with an air safety shut off valve. In the event of a hose rupture, this valve will significantly reduce the air flow to prevent injuries from a failing hose. This is a hard requirement, no exceptions.
5. The control box shall provide a fully integrated control system for the engine, heating system, agitation system and application system. This is a hard requirement, no exceptions. The melter applicator shall have a thermostatic control device that will automatically regulate hot oil, material, and hose temperature. The control shall have a digital readout and independent dial control for each heat transfer oil, material and applicator hose temperatures. The thermostat shall control burner ignition for a temperature range from a low of 200° F up to a high of 425° F. The temperature controls shall be in a single weatherproof control box. This is a hard requirement, no exceptions.
