About this file
The document is a Salient Characteristics file detailing specifications for a Multiaxial Mechanical Tester intended for bone testing research. The device must have a compact benchtop footprint under 10 x 15 x 30 inches and be capable of performing four specialized mechanical tests on mouse femurs and tibias: 3-point bend, 4-point bend, compression, and torsion testing. Additional required features include a color camera for test documentation, a computer with Mac-1 Motion and Mach-1 Analysis software (or equivalent), and user-friendly online training modules.
This file is associated with a Sources Sought notice (Solicitation Number: 36C24725Q0708) issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs Network Contracting Office 7 for the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. The market research notice seeks potential sources capable of providing the Multiaxial Mechanical Tester, with responses to be submitted electronically to Jeremy.Calligan@va.gov. Respondents must provide company contact information, SAM UEI/Cage Code, business status, and a capabilities statement. The VA is conducting market research to potentially set aside the future solicitation for Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) or Veteran Owned Small Businesses (VOSB) if the "rule of two" is met.

Text version
Mechanical Testing System Salient Characteristics:
· Small Benchtop Footprint (WxDxH): under 10 x 15 x 30 inches
· One device that can do the following tests on mouse femurs and tibias:
· 3-point bend- testing bones stiffness, strength, and resistance to fracture by applying a load at a single midpoint while the bone is supported at both ends
· 4-point bend- testing a bones stiffness and strength more uniformly across a lager region by applying two loading points between two supports creating a constant bending without a shear force
· Compression- measures a bone’s ability to withstand forces that push it together to assess the flexibility of the trabecular bone
· Torsion- measure how the bone responds to rotational pressure providing information of shear strength and stiffness.
· Includes a color camera for recording tests and images to be used on publications
· Includes a computer with Mac-1 Motion and Mach-1 Analysis (or equivalent) for user friendly analysis of test results
· User friendly online training modules for Laboratory staff
· Does not require lubrication
