About this file
Salient Characteristics for Hangar Fall Protection System
This document outlines the technical specifications and requirements for a permanent hangar fall protection system designed to protect workers at heights. The system must accommodate multiple workers with a minimum anchorage capacity of 5,000 pounds per attached worker, utilizing 18 certified I-beam clamps installed by a hired contractor. The anchorage is permanent and includes maintenance instructions to be provided upon installation.
The connection device consists of 18 load-indicating snap hooks compatible with dorsal D-ring style body harnesses, connected to corrosion-resistant 3/16" galvanized steel cable with polyester rope taglines. The system requires a self-locking connector mechanism to prevent accidental disengagement and must provide greater than 50 feet of lifeline while maintaining compatibility with all system components. The deceleration mechanism employs 18 self-retracting lifelines (SRL) with fast-acting braking systems, limiting maximum fall distance to 2 feet or less with capability to lock and arrest a fall. The overall system requires fall clearance calculations to ensure workers do not strike ground or obstacles, a documented rescue plan with procedures and contact information for fallen worker recovery, regular documented inspections and maintenance of all equipment, and confirmation of component compatibility throughout the entire system.
