EXHIBIT C – REQUIREMENTS

This Exhibit outlines the Mandatory Requirements for items to be bid per Cost Sheet (Exhibit B)

System Use Overview:

Basic Mission Types include (but are not limited to):

· Mapping hypoxia in shallow freshwater environments, where the depth range is from 5-30 meters. Thermal gradients are very steep, and the hypoxic bottom layer can be quite thin, ~ 1 meter, this translates to the requirement of the vehicle to be able to collect data very close to the bottom. The critical parameters for this mission are oxygen, specific conductivity, and temperature, however other sensor options are of interest.

Thermoclines can be as much as a 10 C temperature change in less than 1 meter, so it is important the sensor package can respond to rapid changes in concentrations, and the AUV can travel at speeds and vertical angles sufficient to capture the vertical structure.

· Water quality monitoring, including water mass identification, Harmful algal bloom detection, river plume mapping, and basic water quality parameters

· High resolution bathymetry mapping using side scan sonar and bottom imagery. Applications include bathymetry, habitat mapping and characterization, search and mapping of archeological sites and assets, e.g., shipwrecks in the Marine Sanctuaries in the Great Lakes in both shallow and waters > 100 meters.

Item 1 – Autonomous Underwater Vehicle(s) & Software/Controls:

AUV system(s) must meet the following mandatory specifications:

· Depth rating - minimum required: 300 meters for all components.

· Altitude to within 1 meter of bottom

· Capable of being deployed by hand, i.e., less than 25 lbs. in air.

· Speed/duration capabilities:

· Min. 8 km/hr for water quality sensor configuration.

· Minimum duration of 10 hours at 4 km/hr.

· Navigational accuracy without resurfacing and without external acoustic positioning system: 2% or better.

· Remote control/surface unit range: minimum range of 2 km / 2000 meters.

· Side scan sonar specifications: High frequency, (500 kHz to 1 megahertz), Range (typical) 50 m.

· Control unit features a “Return to home” function.

· Navigation software programming capabilities, data acquisition, resolution, archiving and file formats, and georeferencing: No proprietary technologies; common data formats are required

· Minimum sensor package to include or accept: rapid response (< 1 sec.) dissolved oxygen, conductivity (freshwater, 0-5 mS/cm), and temperature (-5 to 40 C.) sensors.

Note: Water quality sensor package: included as a separate line item in the bid price or excluded; if excluded, supplier must provide UWM with contact information for suppliers of compatible sensor packages with their AUV systems.

· Supplier shall provide in their proposal materials detailing the following

· Battery capacity, recharging parameters, method, and time required

· Data visualization options and capabilities

· Communication protocols
