I. Background

The Building 46 Atrium Skylight at the St. Petersburg, Florida, Veterans Affairs Regional Office (VARO) was most-recently renovated in 2008-2009 by Firewatch Contracting of Florida, LLC. Said exterior renovations were completed with Pentaglas 10 millimeter

(mm) glazing translucent panels and one hundred one (101) feet by one hundred one

(101) feet polycarbonate battens. Certain skylight panels have been damaged from recent hurricanes. Temporary fixes or resolutions of the damaged skylight panels have been maintained by the facility.

II. Objective

The objective of this project is to remove and replace in-kind the existing exterior glazing translucent panel system, including the polycarbonate battens, for the Building 46 Atrium Skylight at the St. Petersburg, Florida, VARO. Lightning protection is a part of the project scope. The skylight system has required minor and local modifications to the supporting structure.

The replacements will consist of a similar system, designed to exceed the South Florida Building Code (SFBC) requirement for one hundred thirty (130) mile per hour wind speeds. The Atrium Skylight Panel replacements shall withstand a Category 4 hurricane. Category 4 hurricane is classified as wind speeds between one hundred thirty-one (131) miles per hour to one hundred fifty-five (155) miles per hour. According to the record drawings, the current system is for a one hundred (100) mile per hour wind speed.

Existing interior translucent panels and structure shall remain, which are not a part of the project scope.
