SECTION I - GENERAL INFORMATION
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This project consists of a roof replacement design for two school buildings as described below.
1. Glastonbury High School all areas last completed in 1991 consisting of (26) roof areas and approximately 137,206 square feet of 4-ply asphalt base, stone ballasted built up roof. It is scheduled for replacement in summer of 2027. Under the design construction documents this will be the Base Bid. The new recommended roof replacement design is an EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) 90 mil single ply rubber roof system that is fully adhered over a tapered insulation board. This project will go before the BOE and Town Council for all required steps for a DAS School Construction Grant.
a) Additionally, the roof design will include an add alternate in the construction documents for the existing Pool and Gym Roofs, both currently EPDM and in good condition. This is shown in the northeast corner and they are approximately 40,000 square feet.
b) The last section of existing roof, is Building “A” Science Wing, shown in the northwest corner and two other small buildings known as the “Annex Café and Library Extension”.
These are two-ply asphalt based modified bituminous roofing membrane installed during their original construction in 2005. These three roof areas are approximately 35,000 square feet.
The roof reconditioning design under paragraphs (a) & (b) will be shown in the construction documents as an “add-alternate price to recondition these roofs” in an effort to extend the life cycle.
