About this file
This is a Questions & Answers document for RFQ460783 concerning the Prusa AFS Pro 3D printing system. The document addresses six key inquiries from potential bidders regarding system configuration, evaluation criteria, and optional features.
The government requires a Prusa Pro AFS system with 10 printers total—9 operating simultaneously with 1 spare unit capable of hot-swap capability for maintenance purposes. The build volume of the standard Prusa Pro AFS is sufficient for the intended manufacturing applications. Bidders are not required to work through a prime contractor. The evaluation prioritizes functionality, compatibility, support, automation, and lead time over price considerations. The government requires a fully automated system encompassing build scheduling, assignment, printing, unloading, and restarting capabilities. While different materials and nozzles may be used across printers, heterogeneous build volumes and printing capabilities are not required and are not preferred. Mix-and-match printer configurations and larger build volumes offer no additional value. Inline dryers and dry-boxes are valued as optional features but are not mandatory requirements.

RFQ460783 PRUSA AFS PRO
Questions & Answers
1. Is there a need for more or less than 9 printers, which is how many come in the AFS standard configuration?
The Prusa Pro AFS comes with 10 printers, 9 of which are in operation at a time. The 10th is a spare that can be swapped in at moments notice if maintenance is needed.
This ability to hot swap a machine quickly is an important piece of functionality.
For the current needs of the project, 9 printers operating at one time is sufficient due to the available floor space and power requirements we have for our demonstration.
2. Would an alternative solution that fits the bill and is less expensive get preference?
Price is not the driving factor for this purchase. Functionality, compatibility, support, automation, and lead time are most critical.
3. Just wanting to confirm that we must go through a prime. No
4. Would a larger build volume on the alternative system be of value?
For our current project, no. The build volume of the Prusa Pro AFS is sufficient for the objects we will be manufacturing.
5. Would mix and match Prusa printers enabling you to select what you want be of value?
What we need is a fully automated system from build scheduling and assignment, to printing, to unloading and restarting. It is possible that we will use different materials and nozzles on different printers, but having different build volumes and printing capabilities is not a requirement and is not preferred.
6. Would on-demand, inline dryers + dry-boxes be of value?
Dryers and dry-boxes are of value but are not required.
