Request for Quotation – Darien Downtown Development Authority Dock Repairs

1 | P a g e

Section I: Summary of Project

Most of the DDA docks were built before DNR permits were required and therefore the exact date is not known. As a result, they are in need of repair and rehabilitation. The location of the docks is behind

Skippers Fish Camp Restaurant and Settlers Bluff Condominiums at 85 Screven St, Darien, GA 31305. The information below describes the repairs needed.

The walkway between Settlers Bluff and The Skippers Oyster Bar is beginning to tear away from land. The handrails are no longer connected in many places and the deck boards are visibly spreading apart. The pilings are leaning and beginning to sink. Several pilings are tied off to land in an attempt to keep them from leaning too far. This area needs to be repaired. Because much of this walkway is submerged during heavy rains, replacing those boards with the composite material known as Trex, will help preserve this section for a much longer period of time.

The west dock has begun to show considerable wear and deterioration. The pilings are sinking and the deck boards are no longer safe for the public. This area has been blocked off by caution tape and needs to be restored.

The dock that is directly in front of the walkway houses The Gravedigger, a working shrimp boat. This area is constantly under pressure from the swift tides and the dock itself and is beginning to break away from the walkway. To keep pedestrians and shrimpers safe, this area should be repaired. It currently cannot be used for any boating activities.

The deck extending from Skippers formal dining area is beginning to show wear with boards lifting requiring consistent maintenance. The wooden deck will be replaced with the composite material known as Trex.

Trex is designed to provide a more durable, maintenance free surface and is needed to ensure a safe area for the many visitors who watch the shrimpers as they approach.

This request for quotation (RFQ) for the repair of the DDA Docks is issued by the Darien Downtown Development Authority.
