About this file

This document is a Statement of Need (SON) for a Request for Quote (RFQ) issued by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), for the procurement of NanoString CosMx Spatial gene expression library preparation kits (6K).

The SON specifies the required products, which include various kits and components for the NanoString CosMx SMI platform, to support the NCI's research on tumor heterogeneity and evolution. The requirement is for a Firm-Fixed-Price purchase order, with a 30-calendar day delivery timeline and a 90-day warranty. Inspection and acceptance will be performed by the designated Technical Point of Contact (TPOC). The RFQ is a total small business set-aside with a NAICS code of 325413 (In Vitro Diagnostic Substance Manufacturing).

STATEMENT OF NEED (SON)

1.0 TITLE

Brand Name NanoString CosMx Spatial gene expression library preparation kits (6K)

2.0 BACKGROUND

The Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Center for Cancer Research’s (CCR), Spatial Tumor Biology Section of the Cancer Data Science Laboratory (CDSL) focuses on tumor heterogeneity and tumor evolution with the goal of improving early detection and therapeutics for liver cancer. It is well known that cellular functions are closely related to the spatial context of the cells. Thus, resolving the spatial information of tumor cells and immune cells would be critical to understand tumor heterogeneity and tumor evolution. The CDSL to date has used NanoString’s CosMx SMI platform for the assessment of spatial information of tumors due to its ability to profile the expression of ~6,000 genes with an additional layer of spatial information. To continue these research efforts and to ensure scientific comparability of research results, the CDSL requires additional CosMx SMI platform reagents.
