About this file

This Request for Quotation (RFQ) details the procurement of a specialized 6x4 cab and chassis dump truck for North Cascades National Park. The vehicle is required to have a gross vehicle weight rating between 54,000-58,000 lbs, featuring a turbocharged diesel engine with minimum 500 HP, fully automatic transmission, full air brakes with ABS, and a heavy-duty suspension suitable for mountainous terrain. The dump truck must have a 10-14 cubic yard end dump body with double-wall corrosion-resistant construction, high-capacity hydraulic hoist system, and various specialized components including a cab guard, pintle hitch kit, trailer connection socket, and integrated safety features.

The technical specifications emphasize durability and functionality for challenging park maintenance operations, including hauling materials and heavy equipment on steep grades exceeding 12%. Additional requirements include full steel frame inserts, rear-facing mirrors mounted to the A-Pillar area, and cab corner windows to enhance visibility. The truck is designed for operation on rough, uneven road surfaces at speeds over 50 miles per hour, with extra frame support to provide stability and longer chassis life. The vehicle will be used primarily for road, facility, and campground maintenance projects in the North Cascades National Park Service Complex.

AREQ - Addi onal Requirements for 614 – Cab and Chassis, 54,000 – 58,000 GVWR

1) Full steel insert 168” to 348” F/ 10-5/8” or 10-3/4” Medium Duty Steel Rail inserted/welded to inside of frame.

2) Rear facing mirrors must be mounted to the A-Pillar area of the cab of the vehicle.

3) Cab corner windows for increased visibility for backing in congested parking lots, campgrounds, and narrow winding roads.

Addi onal requirements for this vehicle are being requested a er researching op ons that will allow for safety and durability while opera ng this vehicle. The vehicle is primarily operated on rough, uneven road surfaces at speeds greater than 50 miles per hour. There are numerous steep winding grades that place extra torsion on the frame and axles.

The inner frame support rails welded to the main frame rails allow for extra stability and longer chassis life. The extra support will also allow for greater durability while naviga ng the bumpy, and uneven county roads with very few shoulders. The driver will also have more control during correc ve measures and maneuvering in a defensive driving situa on.

Rear facing mirrors mounted to the truck cab near the A-Pillar instead of the door provide greater visibility and fewer adjustments. The mirrors are relied upon in campgrounds and day use areas to safely navigate through narrow passageways and around parked vehicles to access dumpsters.

Mirrors are also necessary to provide safety to the driver while entering and exi ng the vehicle along busy roadways and in parking lots where traffic is heavy. Mirrors provide visibility in the most important areas of a rear loading garbage truck that must be backed into sites, allowing for safety of park visitors.
