Specifications FY2021 Swine Feed for USDA ARS Clay Center Research Location

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Background and Purpose:

Scientists at the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) are developing scientific information and new technology to solve high priority problems for the U.S. beef, sheep, and swine industries. About 50 percent of the effort is with beef cattle, 30 percent with swine, and 20 percent with sheep. The below listed feed and feed additives are required to feed these animals. In order to properly look at the past digestive health and performance of the herd and compare it to the data moving forward, we have to keep all feed variables that contribute to animal performance the same. This includes the benefits of both feed additives Visano and M Mobilize that are currently in our diets. Nursery diets (complete ration, weaning to 15 pounds; base mixes, 15 to 25 and 25 to 50 pounds) are needed. The nursery diet and base mixes must contain the direct fed microbial (DFM) Visano. Base mixes for growing and finishing pigs (50 to 10, 100 to 150, and 150 to 265 pounds), gestation, lactation, and gilt development are also required. Because of the toxins that have been identified in our corn, M Mobilize is to be added to the diets in order to minimize the effect the toxins will have on the performance of the pigs. All diets and base mixes are required to be delivered in bulk on a regular basis.
