About this file
This document is Addendum Number 001 for the Metals Development Parapet Repair project (RFP SC-25-668) at Ames Laboratory, issued on June 2, 2025, with a bid due date of June 12, 2025. The addendum addresses several contractor questions and modifications, including providing scalable drawings in the original 30 inch by 42" format, confirming the project's tax-exempt status, and specifying details about parapet reconstruction, such as matching existing coursing patterns with a false header course.
The addendum includes additional information about site access, noting an existing utility/walkway tunnel connecting to Spedding Hall, and requires contractors to provide a staging plan with shoring reinforcement if equipment drives over the tunnel. It also adds an alternate for selective tuckpointing (estimated 50 SF) and expands acceptable manufacturers for roofing-related materials, specifically adding Sika/Sarnafil as an approved manufacturer for self-adhered sheet air barriers, PVC thermoplastic single-ply roofing, and fluid applied roofing. The document explicitly rejects IB Roof Systems as an approved equal for this project, emphasizing compatibility with an upcoming reroof project.

ITEM #1: QUESTIONS/COMMENTS FROM CONTRACTORS:
A. Comment: Please provide scalable drawings. The drawings provided with the RFP were printed in a landscape view on a portrait page format.
Response: Original formatted 30 inch by 42” drawings have downloaded to the RFP SC-25-668 project online drop box.
B. Comment: Please confirm this project is tax exempt.
Response: Yes, this project is tax exempt.
C. Question: Existing 3-wythe brick parapet has tie courses (seen in attached pics as header courses). Reconstruction calls for CMU/Brick veneer. Is the intent to lay back the new brick with false header course or use running bond for all lay back of brick.
Response: New parapet work to match existing coursing pattern and include false header course.
D. Question: During Pre-Bid meeting, it was mentioned that there are underground tunnels on the South Elevation. Are there any drawings that show the locations and/or the weight capacity of equipment that can be utilized on that side (or any side) of the building. Some elements of the existing building to be removed and reinstalled will need to be done using lift equipment and cannot be done by just manpower.
Response: Site plans shown on sheet G0.0 do show the location of the existing utility/walkway tunnel (yellow dotted line) connecting to Spedding Hall. It is believed that no other utility tunnels are located at the perimeter of this building that would affect this project. The
