1. INTRODUCTION

Under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC (FermiForward), is leading the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) Project to enable a world-class program in neutrino physics. Specifically, the LBNF Project (https://lbnf-dune.fnal.gov) provides the infrastructure for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), which will consist of two large liquid argon-based neutrino detectors located nearly a mile underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, SD. See Figure 1, LBNF/DUNE-US Schematic

The Far Detector & Cryogenics (FDC) subproject of LBNF/DUNE-US installs the cryostats, detectors, cryogenics and supporting infrastructure at the SURF laboratory.

2. STRUCTURE/COMPONENT DESCRIPTION

Temporary AC power is required throughout the installation of all stages of construction in all three underground caverns until the permanent power is brought online by conventional facilities. Temporary Power will be routed from the 12.47kV in the Rollup room to the Mine Load Centers (MLCs) located near the CUC (Central Utility Cavern). At the MLC, the 12.47 kV is stepped down to 480V and routed to Temporary Power Skids (TPS) which distribute temporary power throughout the North and South Caverns.

Medium Voltage cable runs connect the incoming power from the Rollup room to the MLCs and from the MLCs to each TPS. These cable runs consist of 2/0 3-cond, 4/0 3-conductor GGC, and 350MCM GGC cables.

Connection points have been identified to facilitate flexibility during installation, and to allow for shorter cable runs due to the weight of the cables.

3. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

The vendor shall provide male and female line plugs that meet the following requirements:

• All plugs must be NRTL listed

• Vender must provide FDGG with a list of part numbers and specification documents before finalizing the order.

480V Connections must:

Be water-tight Be dust-tight Meet mine Health and Safety Standards Be lockable against accidental disconnect Have all parts thoroughly insulated and/or grounded

15 kV Connections must:

Have beveled edge on plug cover and socket body to create dust-tight and water-tight seal Be No-thread Use pin and slot design to prevent against accidental disconnect Have phase and ground contacts made of solid copper and silver plated to prevent corrosion Male contacts must have split nose with silicone button that expands when heated Solid polyester insulating plate and double O-ring seal
