About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for a temporary chiller installation solicitation.
The document addresses six key inquiries regarding temporary chiller installations at multiple building locations. Building electrical amperage is specified at 800 amps per location. For Thayer Hall, a 750kVA transformer is required to step down voltage from 4160V high voltage electrical vault to 480V for temporary chiller power requirements. All temporary chiller disconnect switches feature camlock connections, eliminating the need for hardwiring at installation sites. Base contractors are required to provide complete installation assistance at all chiller locations, with government personnel providing onsite direction throughout the installation process. Regarding the critical bridge installation at Thayer Hall, the government clarifies that no structural load ratings are available for the extended chiller hose and electrical cable suspension, as this is the designated installation location; however, necessary adjustments will be made upon chiller delivery. The overhead clearance beneath the bridge at Thayer Hall is specified at 20-25 feet, with scissor lifts being the historical equipment used for hose installation and securing hoses and cables to overhead support beams.

Temp Chiller RFIs
• Can you please verify the amperage of each building? 800 amps.
• What would be the purpose of the 750-1250 transformer for the Thayer Hall building? The purpose of the 750kva transformer is for connection to 4160V high voltage electrical vault to step down to the required 480V for temp chiller requirements for power.
• Are there camlock connections at all locations? OR will they need to be hardwired?
Yes, camlock connections are on all temp chillers disconnect switches.
• Clarify whether the base contractors will be providing any installation assistance at the chiller locations—specifically for the new chiller installation at Thayer Hall?
Contractors are required to provide all assistance, as government provides onsite directions for installation.
• My primary concern is the suspension and routing of the chiller hoses and power cabling under the bridge. I’ve consulted with mechanical engineers regarding the extended hose run; however, they’re unable to provide pricing or guidance without confirming the load rating of the existing I-beams that support the plumbing beneath the bridge. Additionally, I did not observe any designated attachment points for securing hoses or cabling prior to the transition off the side of the bridge, from the new proposed chiller placement. Any insight into the structural ratings, available attachment points, or scope of contractor support would be greatly appreciated.
There are no structural ratings for installing extended chiller hoses and electrical cables, as this is the designated location for installation placement. We can make necessary adjustments for installation upon delivery of chiller.
• With respect to the chiller set up at Thayer Hall - What's the height of the overhead (under the bridge) where the cables and hoses will need to be attached to? I'm trying to size the manlift/telehandler that will be needed for the techs to perform the installation & to secure the hoses & cables to the overhead support beams that are provided. 20-25’ ft. A scissor lift has always been used in the past for installing hoses.
