RFID Pilot RFI Questions
1. What systems do you have in place to manage:
a. Point of Sale - Exchange in-house custom software.
b. In-store inventory - Exchange in-house custom software and Oracle Retail
c. Inventory adjustments - Exchange in-house custom software
d. Orders - Exchange in-house custom software and Oracle Retail
e. Receiving - Exchange in-house custom software
2. Which system manages your item master, and does it contain both UPC and EPC? An Oracle Retail ERP (Formerly marketed as Retek) manages products at company-wide level using UPC only.
3. How is the item master maintained?
a. New items
b. Retail changes
c. Substitution items
New items can be systemically inducted thru GDS or manually inducted thru RMS
4. Are you scanning at POS? We use the term “Scanning” to refer to Bar-code interpretation. RFID interpretation will be called “Reading”. The existing POS Scans but does not Read.
5. Are you scanning at receive? The existing Accountable inventory receiving system Scans but does not Read. Location tracking data capture during the receiving process, if used, requires manual input keyed to two fields, the UPC product identifiers and a Serial ID number specific to the item. Location tracking at present is implemented via this manual process for high-value, serialized, product such as cameras, laptops, and other consumer electronics. EPCs conforming to VICS / GS1 “serialized GTN” standard may be compatible with current Location Tracking applications and this usage is expected to be tested during the pilot.
6. Do you receive item maintenance from vendors? Yes, however out of scope for the pilot.
7. Do you use EDI transactions with vendors? Yes, however out of scope for the pilot.
8. Are there any electronic interfaces with DSD (direct store delivery) vendors? Out of scope for pilot
9. Do you use POS purchase data to prepare replenishment orders? Yes
10. What are the current RTLS devices that are expected to be in future use? Name and version of the model expected. There is no predetermined model of RTLS hardware device.
11. Any particular bar code reader and printer used? No, not at this time.
12. Are there any hand held devices being used for RFID tag reading? No, not at this time. The intent is that handheld RFID readers will be used in the pilot.
13. How many tags are being read per/sec or per/minute basis? Tag read statistics are not available. This indicator is expected to be a measure taken during the pilot.
14. Will the current systems where tag commissioning take place be in use in future? If so what are the names and is the new solution expected to integrate with it? Tag commissioning for the pilot is expected to be primarily at supplier locations with much less replacement commissioning done in store within stockroom (not front sales area) operations. These locations can be expected to continue if the pilot progresses to project and production The systems in use must comply with VICS/ GS1/EPC/National Retail Foundation standards as cooperatively developed by WalMart, Penneys, Macy’s etc..
15. How many locations/stores are expected to have this new solution? One pilot location.
