About this file
This document is a comprehensive Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a Request for Information (RFI) regarding the FBI's Enterprise Virtualization and Data Management Platform. The Q&A covers 41 detailed questions exploring the FBI's current virtualization infrastructure, technological needs, and potential future platform requirements. Key technical details include the FBI currently using Dell 760c servers and 3 Dell R640s, running 26 total VMs (16 on-premises, 10 off-premises), utilizing Vcenter & ESXi, and having an enterprise Splunk setup. The FBI has approximately 4,000 VMs in Cloud on Premise (COP), 1,271 VMs in Servers & Non-Data Center Virtualization (SNDV), and is interested in exploring modernization, security, scalability, and interoperability for future virtualization solutions.
The agency is seeking a modular software solution for enterprise virtualization with remote consulting services, emphasizing flexibility to address complex data management and security needs. The FBI intends to link servers to support Kubernetes/OpenShift environments, with a primary focus on high-performance computing workloads. The services will be performed at two primary locations: Clarksburg, WV and Pocatello, ID. The RFI indicates the FBI is currently not using VDI, Tanzu, or VCF Edge, and has 50 TB of anticipated mission-related data storage. The agency is open to training for new technologies and reserves the right to request product demonstrations. The questions and answers will be publicly posted on SAM.gov, and the FBI is not requesting official quotes or proposals at this stage.

• (i.e., Kubernetes/OpenShift)?
o Yes
• If more than one, is there a primary intended use case or priority among these?
o High Perf computing workloads.
16) Is the intent to form a compute cluster primarily to host virtual desktops (VDI), or are there additional workload types envisioned (i.e., containerized services, analytics, AI inference)?
• The FBI does not have VDI nor have intentions to.
17) Would the FBI consider supporting both VDI and container-native workloads (i.e., OpenShift/Kubernetes) within the same infrastructure?
• N/A
18) Mission Data Volume: How much mission-related data (i.e., applications, analytics, virtual machines, and container data) does the FBI anticipate storing in this environment?
• 50 TB
19) Log Data Volume: Given requirement 7, what is the estimated volume of system log data to be collected, retained, and archived?
• Unknown as this is not on prem.
20) SIEM Data Volume: With requirement 8 in mind, how much Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) data is expected to be stored and queried regularly?
• Unknown as this is not on prem.
21) Visualization, Alerting, and Reporting Data: Under requirement 9, what volume of data does the FBI anticipate generating for dashboards, alerts, and real-time monitoring?
• Unknown as this is not on prem.
22) Additional Data Types: Are there other classes of data such as training datasets for analytics/AI, imaging, or unstructured files that the FBI anticipates managing in this platform?
