I. Introduction

The population of the United States is becoming more environmentally conscious in recent years. The increased use of electric vehicles (EVs) is a result of this awareness and is becoming more mainstream. The US Department of Energy has said that electric vehicles can cut emissions that contribute to both smog and climate change, thus boosting public health and “reducing ecological damage.” An electric vehicle uses a battery pack to store electric energy, which in turn powers a motor. These vehicles are charged up, usually at a charging station, which are installed on the street or in parking lots. One of the current challenges for the users of EVs is ensuring there are enough charging stations readily available. The University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point Office of Sustainability is interested in gathering information about the EV Charging Stations and how they can be incorporated into existing Campus parking.

II. Purpose of the Request of Information

The purpose of the Request for Information (RFI) is to gather information regarding Electric Vehicle Charging Stations. This information will be reviewed and may be used in the development of a Request for Bid solicitation document in the future. UWSP is interested in information regarding existing equipment and service.

The request for information is not intended to result in the purchase of Charging Stations to be installed on the University of Stevens Point campus.

III. Submitting a Response

Interested vendors should submit a response answering the questions in Section IV. Vendor Response. Responses should be no longer than 30 pages. Responses may be submitted electronically (preferred). Written responses will be accepted if electronic copies are not possible. The responses to the requested information and any supplemental materials should be submitted to Heidi.wallner@uwsp.edu no later than 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

B. Technical Information

1. Provide information on the various models of Charging Stations that your company is able to provide, different manufacturers, single charge, dual charge station, etc., estimated life cycle. Are charging stations capable of being used by all/multiple makes and models of electric vehicles? How is the electricity generated at the chargers?

2. Describe payment options for the end users for the charging services, cash, credit card, multiple charges service payment card. Are any other payment options available? Any incentives to be available for UWSP staff and students using staff and student IDs?

3. Are there any site requirements that should be met, prior to installation? Space limitations, utility services, wireless capabilities? Who would be responsible for the installation of the charging stations? Can this be easily handled by campus staff or is the installation of a more technical nature?

4. Explain any instruction or training the end user must have prior to using the Charge Stations. If an end-user is having difficulties charging their vehicle, how is assistance made available to them, via texting, phone?

5. Outline warranty options for purchased equipment.

6. Summarize the recommended service and maintenance for the charging stations.

7. Are reports and usage available to be accessed? What information would be available on these reports? How would ongoing usage be monitored?

8. What would be an approximate cost or the pricing structure for the various charging stations available from your company?
