About this file

This is a Questions and Responses document for a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point regarding Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations. The university is seeking information to determine the feasibility and best approach for incorporating EV charging infrastructure into existing campus parking areas. The project scope includes the installation of two freestanding charging station units, with one unit to be placed in Lot T and another in Lot Y on the campus. The charging stations will be available for use by students, faculty, staff, and the general public. At this stage, the university is in an information-gathering phase and has not yet made a final decision to proceed with installation. The institution does not currently maintain electric vehicles in its fleet and is seeking vendor guidance on available charging station types, installation requirements, electrical infrastructure needs, and site preparation considerations to inform future procurement decisions.

The university indicated that detailed installation information is not required at this time; however, vendors should indicate whether preliminary site preparation work can be supported by university staff or whether turnkey installation services would be necessary. Key considerations for vendors include clarifying the power source for the charging stations, determining whether site preparation will be performed by university personnel or contracted out, and providing information about communication modem requirements for the two units. The RFI does not specify pricing terms, funding amounts, contract duration, or award timelines, as this is an information-gathering phase to educate the university on available solutions and technology options prior to any formal procurement or purchasing decision.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Questions and Responses

1. Institution information

2. Provide… providing services for electric vehicles…. I am assuming this is providing charging services for electric vehicles

Provide information to help identify your expertise and experience with the electric vehicle and charging stations. This may include any sales, maintenance and repair of the electric vehicles themselves, as well as the sales, maintenance and repair of the charging stations.

B. 1. Last sentence How is electricity generated at the chargers? Not sure what response you are looking for.

Is the power/current for the charging stations provided by existing electrical service or is the unit solar powered?

What is the proposed use for the chargers? For example, Is it for your fleet vehicles, staff or student parking, or open for all users? This will help us to determine the best solution for your intended use.

The chargers will be installed in existing parking areas on campus. They will available for use by students, faculty/staff or general public. UWSP does not currently have electric vehicles in their fleet.

If we provide guidance, will university staff prepare the site and stub out the electrical - or would you want a turnkey installation? We can provide installation guides if the prep work will be done by your staff so that they will understand what the power and concrete base requirements are. This will likely result in a longer response but I want to ensure you have all the information you will need.

At this time, we are gathering information only through this Request for Information (RFI) process. We will use the information received to educate ourselves on what type of charging stations are available and what would be the best direction for UWSP to take, should the decision is made to proceed in the installation of the electric vehicle charging stations.

Any information provided will be part of our consideration. It will not be necessary to provide installation info in great detail. If UWSP staff is able to do preliminary work, if you indicate that information can be made available for use, that will be sufficient at this time.

Will installation occur in an open lot (ground floor) or is this likely a wall installation in a garage? Helps us to determine style of charger needed and what guidance we need to provide you to ensure smooth, safe installation.

It’s my understanding the free standing charging stations are preferred in an open parking area. Again, a lot of detail is not necessary, at this time, regarding the installation Lastly, is this for one unit, or do you envision having multiple locations or several units in one location? This helps us to determine how many units will need communication modems

The goal is to ultimately purchase 2 total units. They will be installed, one each, into 2 different parking lots , Lot T and Lot Y, on Campus.
