The Function of the C-5 Control Column Stick Shaker

The C-5 Control Column Stick Shaker is an integral part of warning the flight crew of a stall condition. In the aircraft, when the shaker motor is energized by the aircraft Stallimiter System, the motor rotates an unbalanced internal mass through speed reduction gearing. The angular motion of the shaker housing, in reaction to the rotating unbalanced mass, is translated into a linear, reciprocal movement of the aircraft flight control column, alerting the flight crew to the imminence of stall.

C-5 Control Column Stick Shaker repair requires strict control of processes to ensure adherence to quality control and testing requirements. Special tooling is required for the repair capability, and special equipment is required for testing of the C-5 Control Column Stick Shaker once repaired. Consistent repair processes are needed to ensure that the C-5 Control Column Stick Shaker is repaired and will be operable in the event of a critical, in-flight emergency.
