About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission in Virginia regarding IFB #26-013 for the Runway 6-24 Rehabilitation Project, specifically Phase B intersection work. The RFI solicits contractor feedback on two alternative scheduling options to determine feasibility for completing intersection work between two runways. Option 1 proposes eight days with 8-hour working windows from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by seventeen days with 4-hour working windows from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM. Option 2 presents a pre-planned uninterrupted 48-hour shutdown of the work area to allow continuous construction operations. Contractors are requested to confirm whether either option would be sufficient to complete all required tasks in work area B. Responses must be submitted by Monday, August 3rd to allow the Airport Commission to evaluate feasibility and determine if adjustments to the project schedule are necessary.
The RFI does not contain specific pricing information, set-asides, incumbent contractor details, or explicit funding sources and amounts. The request appears to be an information-gathering tool designed to inform the final bidding documents and project specifications prior to formal bid solicitation. The primary concern addressed is the limited working hours available for intersection rehabilitation work, likely due to operational constraints requiring the airport to maintain runway operations during daytime hours.

Subject: Request for Information – Runway 6-24 Rehabilitation Project (Phase B Intersection Work)
Hello, We are reaching out regarding the ongoing solicitation for the Runway 6-24 Rehabilitation Project.
Several contractors have noted concerns about the available working hours associated with work area B, specifically the intersection work between the two runways. To better understand feasible scheduling options and ensure the bidding documents align with practical construction needs, we are requesting feedback on two potential alternatives.
Please review the two scenarios below and provide confirmation on whether either option would be sufficient to complete the intersection work as defined in the project scope.
1. Option 1:
Would the work be achievable if the Airport provided:
o Eight (8) days with 8-hour working windows, 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM o Followed by seventeen (17) days with 4-hour working windows, 1:00 AM to 5:00
AM,
Please confirm whether this combination of work durations would allow you to complete all required tasks in work area B.
2. Option 2:
Would the work be achievable if the Airport provided a pre-planned uninterrupted 48-hour shutdown of work area B (the intersection), allowing continuous work over that period?
Please confirm whether this uninterrupted window would be sufficient to complete the intersection work in its entirety.
We kindly request that all responses be submitted no later than Monday, August 3rd, so we can evaluate the feasibility of these options and determine whether adjustments to the project schedule are warranted.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or clarifications needed.
