About this file

This document is a Request for Application (RFA) for the BRAIN Initiative: Development and Validation of Novel Tools to Probe Cell-Specific and Circuit-Specific Processes in the Brain (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed).

The RFA is soliciting applications to develop and validate novel tools that facilitate the detailed analysis of complex circuits and provide insights into cellular interactions underlying brain function. The new tools and technologies should inform and/or exploit cell-type and/or circuit-level specificity. Applications are encouraged to provide approaches that break through existing technical barriers to substantially improve current capabilities. The tools can be used in a number of species/model organisms rather than those restricted to a single species.

This funding opportunity is sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health across several grant programs, including Mental Health Research Grants, Alcohol Research Programs, Drug Use and Addiction Research Programs, and others. The award mechanism is a grant, and eligible applicants include a wide range of organization types such as tribal governments, for-profit organizations, state governments, nonprofits, and small businesses.
