About this file
This document contains product specifications for a federal solicitation using "Brand Name or Equal" procurement for two scientific instruments required by USDA/ARS.
The first required item is a Maxwell RSC System automated purification instrument or equivalent that must perform automated nucleic acid extractions and processing for mission critical research. Key specifications include automated purification of nucleic acids for PCR and NGS applications from diverse sample types (blood, serum, plasma, viral transport media, tissues, fecal samples, swabs, saliva, wastewater), sample lysis and binding to paramagnetic particles, compact design for small workspaces, low elution volume processing, automated processing of 1-16 samples per run, heated elution capability, pre-filled reagent cartridges, pre-loaded extraction protocols, global technical support, and one-year warranty on parts and labor.
The second required item is a GloMax Explorer System instrument or equivalent for conducting microplate assays. Specifications include integration with Promega assay protocols, superior performance for luminescence/fluorescence/UV-visible absorbance assays, tablet PC interface with data export options, 9-log luminescence dynamic range without filters, detection sensitivity of 3x10-21 moles of luciferase, compatibility with Dual Luciferase and NanoLuc assays, upgradable UV/visible absorbance and BRET/FRET detection capabilities, automatic data analysis, factory-installed shaker with linear/orbital shaking and temperature control, support for 6-384 well plate formats, and global technical support. Delivery must be FOB to USDA/ARS at 3026 Bee Biology Rd., Davis, CA 95616.

Specifications – The “equal” item in accordance with the “Brand Name or Equal” provision of this solicitation must meet or exceed the following characteristics:
Minimum Requirement specifications – (1) Maxwell RSC System automated purification instrument - Brand name or Equal
The following requirements are essential to conduct mission critical research involving automated nucleic acid extractions and processing
• Automated purification of nucleic acids for use in PCR and NGS applications, isolated from a broad range of sample types, including blood, serum, plasma, viral transport media, cells, animal and plant tissues, formalin fixed and paraƯin embedded (FFPE) tissues, fecal samples, swabs, saliva, and wastewater samples
• sample lysis and binding to paramagnetic particles as the primary separation principle
• Machine must be compact to fit a small work space
• Utilization of a low elution volume format for sample processing allowing for maximum nucleic acid
• Automated processing of 1 to 16 samples per purification run
• Heated elution to improve yields
• Pre-filled reagent cartridges
• Pre-loaded extraction protocols associated for each sample type
• Global Instrument and Reagent Support by Technical Services
• One Year Warranty on Parts and Labor from date of purchase
Minimum Requirement specifications – (1) GloMax® Explorer System instrument specs
- Brand name or Equal
The following requirements are essential to conduct mission critical research involving microplate assays:
• Integration with Promega assay protocols, pre-loaded and ready to use out of the box
• Performance surpassing most dedicated single-mode instruments for luminescence, fluorescence, or UVVisible absorbance assays.
• Tablet PC and software interface providing simple navigation and a wide variety of data export options.
• Luminescence dynamic range of 9 logs without the use of filters or gain changes. Superior sensitivity with detection of 3 x 10-21 moles of luciferase using Luciferase Assay Reagent
