About this file
This document is a Statement of Requirements for an air-jet sieve shaker to be used by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for separating micro and nano-plastic (MNP) particles for the development of MNP test materials. The key requirements include an air-jet sieve shaker with the ability to separate particles down to 10 microns, free digital adjustment of process parameters, collection of two fractions, and a maximum batch capacity of 0.3 to 100 grams. Two sieves, a cyclone, and a vacuum cleaner are also required. Delivery is required within 90 days of award. This procurement will be conducted as a brand name only competition, with the Retsch AS200 JET as the only acceptable product, due to the unique requirement for a 10 micron sieve. Quoters must provide documentation demonstrating their ability to meet the minimum specifications, and award will be made to the responsible quoter with the lowest price, technically acceptable offer.

STATEMENT OF REQUIREMENTS
TITLE: Air-jet sieve shaker for separation of micro and nano-plastic (MNP) test material
Background Information
The Materials Measurement Science Division has the need for an air-jet sieve shaker. The air-jet sieve shaker will be used to separate under 10 µm MNP particles after cryo-milling process for the development of real-world mimicking MNP test materials. Although the demand for MNP test materials from MNP research community is increasing, it is very difficult to obtain a sufficient amount of sample to conduct experiments, and it is even more difficult to secure pure solid (pristine powder) samples in the target size range (≤10 µm) without additional processing such as dispersion in a medium, addition of surfactants, and sonication, for the diversity of studies. Thus, for the MNP project of developing MNP test materials in MMSD, an advanced sieve shaker equipped with vacuum and air jet functions is an essential device for separating and collecting very small and light (low dense) particles through a very fine sieve, and also for preventing clogging of the sieve to obtain maximum yield.
Minimum Specifications
The Contractor shall provide one (1) air-jet sieve shaker set including proper parts that meets the salient characteristic requirements listed below.
1) Sieving with air jet technology for dispersion and deagglomeration of fine powders.
2) Open Mesh Function to reduce the number of near-mesh particles.
3) Free digital adjustment of all process parameters (time, vacuum, speed).
4) Collection of two fractions possible by use of cyclone.
5) Air jet produced by a powerful industrial vacuum cleaner.
6) Feed material: powder.
7) Measuring range: 10 µm to ~4 mm; must provide 10 µm mesh sieve.
